Minimum required   KDE 3.4.x
Downloads:  134105
Submitted:  Mar 23 2005
Updated:  Dec 17 2007

Description:

KDM Theme manager is just what it says a theme Manager for KDM.
This control module allows you to easily add, remove and select any KDM theme you want.

to install:
./configure
make
su -c "make install"

To run kdmtheme simple open K Control Center and go to System Administration
There you will find KDM Theme Manager

Enjoy!

Packagers, if you want your package listed here, email me or post the link in the comments.
Please note that only the source packages come from me. I do not know if any of the other ones will work or are valid.
A Kubuntu package is now in "Universe" so look for updates there.
Gentoo ebuilds are in portage.

********
KDM Theme WILL be included in KDE4!
The integration has been completed and committed! as of 10/16/2006

Theme Designers please make sure to include a KdmGreeterTheme.desktop in your archives. Failure to do so may cause your themes to no longer work in KDE4!!

Changelog:

2007-09-28 (1.2): Backport of the KDE4 version
2007-10-08 (1.2.1): Fixed a porting bug where the selectionChanged() signal was never connected correctly.
2007-12-16 (1.2.2): Actually save things... (I am quite embarrassed about this one..)
Enable saving when you only disable themes. (emit the changed signal)

 SuSE

Running under SuSE 9.2 it wasn't working so I had to make two links:

ln -s /usr/local/kde/lib/kde3/kcm_kdmtheme.la /opt/kde3/lib/kde3/kcm_kdmtheme.la
ln -s /usr/local/kde/share/applications/kde/kdmtheme.desktop /opt/kde3/share/applications/kde/kdmtheme.desktop

I don't know if this is the correct way of doing it but it does work.

There shouldn't be a /usr/local/kde on a SuSE system. Did you set up the configuration with "./configure --prefix=/opt/kde3 " ?

Well it's me again :)
I installed this Manager and everything worked fine. But when I try to run it using kcmshell kdmtheme command nothing happenes :| I looked for that manager in Control Center but there's no such thing neither in System Administration nor in KDE Components. Can anyone tell me what's wrong with this??

 Great

Great! This is just the part that's missing in the control panel. I hope you can improve this, and include it in the kde/kdm control panel applet.

(or maybe improve the messy panel we still have today)

 Nice tool

Pretty nice tool, I just got the version 0.8. I can run the program through kdmtheme, ( I know I am not supposed to), and when I hit ok, program crashes. It does work fine under kcontrol. Also I installed couple of themes, I hit apply/OK then when I reopen the app. only the default theme is there, the rest of the installed themes disappear. Great work by the way.

Yes I just noticed this. in the next release I do 0.9 this along with another 2 bugs have been fixed :)

it would appear that when I changed the install function to show failed themes it in turn broke how I was adding themes to the list. But I fixed it in a much nicer way than I had it before.

in my example at the top on how to configure this it uses a character that is next to your 1 key.

`` is used in shell commands kinda like how () are used in math
the shell will do whatever is within the `` first.

so in effect what you are doing with the command
./configure --prefix=`kde-config --prefix`
is first finding out where you kde is installed then appending that to the command so if kde-config --prefix returns /usr/kde/3.4 then the final command issued is
./configure --prefix=/usr/kde/3.4

very handy trick :)
if you can't find that character just copy my example

By naming the directory kdmtheme-0.8.1 I can now use checkinstall with no hassle.

Good job!

Checkinstall is a program for slackware (and debian?) that you run instead of executing 'make install'. It makes a neat packet that you can uninstall even after you deleted the sources.

How do you like Plasma 5?
 The best KDE Desktop ever.
 Definitely a nice improvement.
Not decided yet. Haven't tried it yet.
I do not like some of the changes.
KDE is taking the wrong way.
I am still sticking with KDE 3.5.
I have no opinion, but wanted to vote anyway.
