 vamps problem?

by amigib on: Jan 29 2006

Score 50%

vamps : -i: Bad factor. You have to supply a floating point number, e.g. `1.5'.
vamps V0.95
Usage: vamps [--evaporate|-e factor] [--ps-evaporate|-E factor]
[--audio|-a a-track,a-track,...]
[--subpictures|-s s-track,s-track,...] [--verbose|-v]
Vamps evaporates DVD compliant MPEG2 program streams by
selectively copying audio and subpicture tracks and by re-quantizing
the embedded elementary video stream. The shrink factor may be either
specified for the video ES only (-e) or for the full PS (-E).

Thank you for your great app! For the first time, I managed to do a dvd-backup with all the menus of a DVD that had to be shrunk. I think k9copy will be a good linux-replacement for windvdshrink.

Just one little question: While shrinking, the dvd-drive gives a lot of stop and go sounds. Perhaps this strains it a lot and could possibly damage it in the long run. Is there a way to avoid this behaviour?

Keep up your excellent work!

 dvds are too big

I've been trying to backup a couple of different dvd's, but each time, they are coming out a little too big. I've tried dropping the size down to compensate for this, but they keep coming out over 5 gigs. Any suggestions?

You can try installing dvdshrink (using wine, its a win32 app) to shrink it down. However, I never really got it to work, maybe you'll have better luck. Good luck.

Dvd Shrink works just fine with wine... The trick is:

(1) find the config file for wine (under .wine, but can't recall the exact name now.. something with config...)

(2) edit/search that file and find the section which sets the windows setting to win98. Replace win98 with win2k.

(3) That's all! But be careful that this has the potential to affect previously installed windows programs, as it is just like switching from win98 to win2000... You can, however, reinstall these software with you new setting :)

(4) don't blame me if your computer blows up. ;)

enjoy!

Since a couple of days and dist-upgrades I experience the same problem. Before, everything was okay.

Since the last dist-upgrade I made yesterday, the problem seems to be gone! I seem to have updated vamps and qvamps.

Do you like or dislike Ubuntu Unity?
 Yes, unity is alien technology!
It is less confusing than Gnome 3 default, shell.
Granny thinks it is much more usable than Gnome 2
Canonical is embarrasing itself with this split project
Gnome 3 default shell is much better
I dislike Unity, Gnome 3 default shell is alien technology!
None of the above, I like the 2Gb for free and Apple alike behavior. Will post a comment instead
