Description:

For news about kdesvn see now http://kdesvn.alwins-world.de

kdesvn is a subversion client using the native subversion delevelopment API instead of just parsing the output of the commandline tool like most other clients do.

It tries to setup a look and feel like the standard filemanager of KDE and is integrated into it via KPart.

The base C++ interface to subversion I took from the (real great) tool Rapidsvn (see http://rapidsvn.tigris.org/) with some modifcations and fixes.

When interested in getting the source from scratch:

http://anongit.kde.org/kdesvn
(do a git clone http://anongit.kde.org/kdesvn)

Comments are welcome. You may use the bugtracker https://bugs.kde.org/enter_bug.cgi?product=kdesvn
for reporting bugs or request features missing.

 Passwords

I can checkout using svn.
however every time I try to open it with kdesvn I get connection closed unexpectedly.

so I started it from the command line and what do I see?

Password:

so I type it in hit enter and Wow.. it works! had to type it in 3 times for some reason.. but it worked.

My question now is.. Why? I thought kdesvn used the API and not the command line so I guess I assumed there would be a dialog that would prompt me for my password. I also guess I assumed it would remember my password.. typing it in 3 times just to get a directory listing of 3 items is quite annoying.

This behavior is when you using a repository via svn+ssh protocol.

You may take a look inside FAQ of handbook for the exact reasons or on http://steamedpenguin.com/kdesvn-and-private-keys/ for a description how it will work.

That prompt comes not from subversion or kdesvn but from ssh. This moment I've no idea how to deal with it 'cause I'll never get a callback from subversion lib to deal with that passwords myself.

Ok, understandable.
How is it tho that when I use svn://username@server/path I don't get prompted for a password?

it seems the only way currently I can commit changes is by using svn+ssh

This a problem with how I have subversion setup or ?

try without username, eg, svn://host/path

Kdesvn now should ask for it. I'll checkt this, too. 'cause subversion should see that there is a username and should ask. Seems that there is a bug somewhere in kdesvn.

Why not use ssh-askpass by Jim Knoble?

Yes it's another dependency but pretty neat if you could get svn+ssh:// to actually work? :)

simply set the environment variable

SSH_ASKPASS

to the tool you want.
This moment kdesvn respects this.

 dup entry on add

Whenever I use the option "import folders into current"
Then browse to that new directory. Every file is listed twice.
If a do a refresh then it's correct.

How do you like Plasma 5?
 The best KDE Desktop ever.
 Definitely a nice improvement.
Not decided yet. Haven't tried it yet.
I do not like some of the changes.
KDE is taking the wrong way.
I am still sticking with KDE 3.5.
I have no opinion, but wanted to vote anyway.
