Description:

After many failed attempts, it seems I've finally managed to built a binary package that works in most common distros (tested in Slacware 12, Kubuntu 7.10 and openSUSE 10.3 -32bits only!)
Sorry for the inconveniences...

Adds a menu entry, 'transKode', to the playlist popup menu which allows reencoding of selected tracks using predefined profiles (use the 'configure' option to add, remove or edit them).

Required dependencies:
* amaroK >= 1.3 (http://amarok.kde.org/)
* TagLib >= 1.4 (http://developer.kde.org/~wheeler/taglib.html)

NOTE: x86 32bits executable provided, for other archs you can use your distro packages or compile from source:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/transkode

Changelog:

Version 0.7:
- Fix: bug preventing Amarok TTMD to finish if there was a transcoding error
- Fix: decoding/encoding processes priority setting was not correctly applied

Version 0.7beta:
- New: make gstreamer decoder work for both 0.8 and 0.10 version (and drop spider plugin dependency)
- New: support ffmpeg both as decoder and encoder
- New: support xine as decoder (through an ad hoc utility: xineadump)
- New: support winamp plugins as decoder (through an ad hoc utility: wadump -also needs wine)
- New: support twolame encoder
- New: add ASCII function for output path generation
- New: allow editing output metadata (and extend support for composer and disc number to more formats)
- New: various gui improvements (such as using KDE widgets where possible)
- New: show status image (found/missing) for each program in the configuration dialog
- New: add additional profiles for Amarok transfer to media device (aac, flac, wav & wma)
- New: allow multiple simultaneous jobs (seems to crash when showing realtime progress though...)
- Fix: wrong use of wvunpack switches caused deletion of the input file!
- Fix: wrong use of wavpack switches
- Fix: send Amarok TTMD temporary files to the temp dir!
- Fix: when adding a directory, audio files with dots were not added
- Fix: consider double quote character (") when using vfat compatible path/file names

 building on amd64

by Jiilik on: May 23 2006

Score 50%

First, add the line

#include "qdecspinbox.h"

to the file src/dialogs/wavpackdialogbase.cpp

Then, in line 42 and 70 of file
src/worker/transkodefilejob.cpp
and also line 34 of file
src/worker/transkodefileworker.cpp

Change (int) to (long)

Now it'll build and run on amd64.

wavpackdialogbase.cpp is not generated until you start make.

One may be able to edit wavpackdialogbase.ui in such a way that it gets included automatically, but I'm not a whiz with Qt designer.

As it stands, in order to get this to build on amd64 I had to edit the sources that are present pre-make, fail a compile, go into the generated wavpackdialogbase.cpp to add the missing #include, and restart make.

I'm having trouble building on amd64.

I tried the above suggestion, but make is failing with the following error(s):

./wavpackdialogbase.ui.h: In member function 'virtual void wavpackDialogBase::toggleHybridCompression()':
./wavpackdialogbase.ui.h:25: error: invalid use of undefined type 'struct QDecSpinBox'
wavpackdialogbase.h:25: error: forward declaration of 'struct QDecSpinBox'
make[3]: *** [wavpackdialogbase.lo] Error 1

I'm trying building trankode 0.5 on a gentoo system.

Anyone know how to fix this?

Thanks

 preferred format

Your script works fine so far. I can transfer flacs to my zen nano which only talks mp3. But to do so I have to select "Always encode to preferred format" (option may be slightly different in reality, as I have german version here) in the meda device configuration dialog. If I select "Transcode when needed" flacs are transferred to the zen without beeing transcoded. Any idea?

Bye, Val.

 process dies

by baergaj on: Jun 22 2006

using amarok 1.4.0 and transkode 0.5:

Sometimes the transcoding works, but most of the time it just stops part way through. I have tried transcoding from and to various formats with the same results. Whenever it stops, there is a defunct process whose parent is one of the transkode processes which are running.

here is partial output of "ps -ef" after it dies:

baerg 10851 10722 0 14:11 ? 00:00:02 /home/baerg/.kde/share/apps/amarok/scripts/transkode/transkode
baerg 10859 10851 0 14:11 ? 00:00:00 /home/baerg/.kde/share/apps/amarok/scripts/transkode/transkode
baerg 10860 10859 0 14:11 ? 00:00:00 /home/baerg/.kde/share/apps/amarok/scripts/transkode/transkode
baerg 10861 10859 0 14:11 ? 00:00:00 /home/baerg/.kde/share/apps/amarok/scripts/transkode/transkode
baerg 10957 10860 0 14:11 ? 00:00:00 [sh] <defunct>

I have enabled output to a log file, but there are no errors. here is an excerpt from the log file after it has died:

[script] decoding process started
[script] decoding process finished successfully
[script] encoding /tmp/transkode_temp_4.wav to /home/baerg/Ben Harper/2006 - Both Sides Of The Gun (Disc 1)/01 - Morning Yearning.m4a

If I view the debugging output log from amarok, I also see no errors.

Thanks in advance for any help

I haven't solved the problem, but I have found a workaround. I replaced all of the KProcess calls with system calls in transkodefilejob.cpp. If anyone is having the same problem and would like to see the diff, let me know.

 Sync option

by dinghds on: Oct 20 2006

Score 50%

Does this script have a sync option to keep HD-based players up-to-date? This is almost essential for me, as I have a 20gb player which I find almost impossible to keep up-to-date manually with all the new music I get :P

I imagine this could be done with rsync, but I'd like to know in advance if it's possible at the moment with a plugin.

 kubuntu or ubuntu?

by jetpeach on: Feb 15 2007

does anybody have this script working on kubuntu or ubuntu? first, i had to install an old libpng3 library that aptitude said was for legacy code, now i least it runs without an error. but i can't get the context menu to come up and i can't even tell if it's running.

boy i look forward to the day when most people run the same distro, or at least when software will work on mine! i use kubuntu/ubuntu because it's suppose to be popular, but still so many/most scripts don't work for me.

if i understand you correctly, the script shows as running but the config dialog doesn't appear after pressing the config button (let me know that's not what you meant).
please, tell me what happens when you run this from a console:
$ echo "configure" | "$HOME/.kde/share/apps/amarok/scripts/transkode/transkode"

After installing libpng3, the script is working fine for me on Kubuntu 6.10 Edgy.

How do you like Plasma 5?
 The best KDE Desktop ever.
 Definitely a nice improvement.
Not decided yet. Haven't tried it yet.
I do not like some of the changes.
KDE is taking the wrong way.
I am still sticking with KDE 3.5.
I have no opinion, but wanted to vote anyway.
