This wizard will allow you to create a DVD from one or more DVD compatible MPEG-2 files. It is designed to be very easy to use. All you need to do is add one or multiple files to the playlist and answer the questions that follow.

You can add a menu that will contain animated thumbnails of the files in the playlist. Creating a menu is optional.

Features include:

* Playlist editor
* DVD menu with multiple pages
* Animated thumbnails in the menu
* Customisable menu graphics
* Add soundtrack from OGG or MP3
* Antialiased graphics prevent flickering on TV
* Both Widescreen and standard 4:3 support
* ISO DVD Image creation
* MPEG2 DVD compatibility checking
* Support for both PAL and NTSC menus

* Kommander >= 1.0 (part of kdewebdev >= 3.3.0)
* ImageMagick 6.2 or 6.3
* MJPEGTools
* Sox
* DVDAuthor >= 0.6.11
* Transcode

Not required (but recommended):

* Xine-UI (for testing the DVD)
* K3B

How to Install:

Just unpack the archive and run the 'Installer.kmdr' script. That's it!

Please contact me if you experience a problem.

Because ImageMagick developers keep changing the commandline syntax for every single version, the KDE DVD Authoring Wizard does not work with versions older than 6.1.0. Also, newer versions are not compatible with their predecessors. That's why you need to make sure that your DVDAuthor version is newer than ImageMagick, because it uses ImageMagick for menu processing.

Please send your complaints about this mess to the ImageMagick mailing list.

 no space left

 by hplowe on: Dec 29 2006
Score 50%

Hi :)

I get this message at the very end just before i burn the dvd. It would be very nice to know it when i finish to include all the mpeg files. What do you think ?

"The MPEG files in the playlist add up to more than 4500 MB. The resulting DVD image may not fit on a DVD disk!"

More over:
FR-PORT:/home/fabricer/perso/dvd_working# du *.mpeg -shc
4,3G total

and 4.3 Go means 4403 Mo. It is less than the 4500 Mo limit.

ps: you should add the version number in the very first screen of your app. It's easier to know what is running.

It tries to be on the safe side regarding file sizes, and don't forget that a DVD menu also requires disk space...

 specials characters

Hi :)

When you have specials characters (ie &) in your file names, an error message occurs at the very end of the process (when you want to finalyse). I guess it should happen much more earlier (as soon as files are added).

Are you on Ubuntu Linux by any chance? I hear people say Kommander is broken on Kubuntu.

Thank you.. suggestion - I noticed that when I gave the DVD-Menu & sub menu a title they overlaped each other - is there a way to change the size of fonts?

This depends on the font you are using. 99% of all fonts work correctly. It's not difficult to adjust the script to your own wishes though.

Great application, and huge thanks for making it *almost* trivial to create a DVD.

I have a couple of problems maybe you can help me with. I'm using four mpeg2 files I built from DVB streams; I used ProjectX to demux them and mplex to re-multiplex to ".mpg" files that each look fine, in that they play well in Kaffeine with nicely sync'ed audio. So far so good.

Using KDE DVDAuthor Wizard I made a nice menu, and got as far as creating the DVD structure on disk, but now the problems start. The message asks if I would like to test the DVD by playing and when I say yes it fails because it doesn't find xine. But xine is installed:
mark@mest40:~$ xine --version
This is xine (X11 gui) - a free video player v0.99.4.
(c) 2000-2004 The xine Team.

No matter, I find I can play it using Kaffeine to open any of the .vob files.

Sadly the wizard function to create an .iso doesn't seem to work. I click the button and nothing happens. No messages either.

So I use k3b to burn the AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS folders to DVD-R (or DVD+R, I tried both!), and the resulting disk won't play on the PC, it won't play in a Panasonic DVD-recorder (disk not recognized), but it does play in another el-cheapo supermarket DVD player; however there's no sound.

This is all very frustrating since it's so close to being exactly what I need. Any advice or suggestions for this total newbie?

I'm running Kubuntu 6.1, fully up-to-date I believe. Happy to supply any diagnostic info that's needed.

How do you like Plasma 5?
 The best KDE Desktop ever.
 Definitely a nice improvement.
 Not decided yet. Haven't tried it yet.
 I do not like some of the changes.
 KDE is taking the wrong way.
 I am still sticking with KDE 3.5.
 I have no opinion, but wanted to vote anyway.
