Description:

KRadio is a comfortable KDE4 application for internet radio and AM/FM radio cards supported by V4L/V4L2. It has a lot of valuable features such as RDS decoding, pre-recording, timeshift playback, recording (wav, mp3, ogg), PVR support, versatile alarms, LIRC support, and much more (see below).

4.0.7 Release Notes

KRadio 4.0.7 is a bugfix release. It fixes issues with recent libffmpeg updates (planar samples by default now, perviously interleaved). Furthermore, added ID3 tags for recording setup. For details please have a look into the ChangeLog:

http://kradio.sourceforge.net/ChangeLog-4.0.7

Source code and translation packages as well as binary packages for Debian/unstable can be downloaded from the KRadio homepage:

http://kradio.sourceforge.net/download.html

Please test and give feedback about bugs but also success!

With best regards and thanks to all contributors!

Martin

    I can't setup active playback. I have a AverMedia Hybrid+FM A16D card and i need to capture from hw:2,0 (at 32KHz) and play it to hw:0,0. But when i try to setup this in KRadio, it put me errors with opening plughw:0,0. Playing with sox works. How to setup that?

    (In KDE3, i used sox, because i didn't found a way to set active playback to capture at 32KHz)

    Did you set up correctly the Alsa Plugin and the V4L Mixer settings? At least the error message about using the wrong card seems to indicate that. Otherwise, could you please report your alsa/mixer settings in kradio and report the version you are using?

    According to the V4L documentation this is not done automatically but enables RDS support for many RDS supported cards...but no guarantee, can not test it (see below).

    Btw., did you check that your card has RDS support? Does your V4L(2) driver support RDS? If it does and KRadio does not display radio text or a station name, please send me a dump e.g.

    dd if =/dev/radio0 of=/tmp/rdsdump.bin bs=3 count=3000

    That should result in a bit more than one minute of RDS binary data. If reading /dev/radio0 (please replace that by your radio card device file) fails, your card and/or driver does not support RDS.

    ... at least this is what I got from the v4l RDS documentation. Unfortunately I don't have a card supporting RDS. For testing I wrote some hand coded binary emulation input so far. Thus I'd either need a real RDS binary dump or a sponsored RDS enabled card.

    yea, of course, please consider the meaning of that ancient note in the TODO list as implicitly updated. Anyway, I'd appreciate and I'd like to encourage contributions e.g. by implementing this dbus interface. Could be a simple plugin. Like e.g. shortcuts, lirc. I'm currently a bit busy with adding support of internet radio and fixing some problems in the kradio-internal sound system.

    I have just tested the new beta1 and the LIRC still doesn't work how it should. Please see my lircrc:

    begin
    prog = irexec
    button = Radio
    config = kradio4 &
    repeat = 0
    mode = kradio
    end
    begin kradio
    begin
    prog = kradio4
    button = Exit/Back
    config = QUIT
    repeat = 0
    end
    end kradio

    And in the kradio there is the following LIRC configuration:

    Quit KRadio = QUIT

    Then when I press the Back/Exit button on my remote control, it shows the following messages in the Debugging Logger:

    2009-02-23T10:51:52 LIRC: decoding raw, lirc_code2char gave no answer
    2009-02-23T10:51:52 LIRC: raw::Back/Exit

    I have also tried to configure the kradio to accept Back/Exit directly (without the additional QUIT definition in the lircrc) but the result was still the same.

    The only positive on the LIRC is the fact, that it doesn't get frozen when I press a button on my remote control, as it did in the previous revision.

    Further I would like to ask you, if you could remove the -rXXX from the release script? It is confusing to have two versions. Either it is betaX or rXXX but not be both together.

    Hi,

    if you start kradio in this way from irexec, you will endup in inconsistent states of the liblirc_client instances: irexec will be in radio mode while kradio will be in default mode. This is the reason why kradio does only see raw data. You have two choice: Just enter the raw key in kradio's lirc config. Or wait for the next beta. I'll try to convince the liblirc_client to change the mode on startup.

    One more question concerning the recording in kradio. When I select "File Format = MP3 Ciompressed (.mp3)", the "MP3 Quality(0 - high, 9 - low) = 7" get enabled.

    The question is why it has 0 as high and 0 as low quality and the default value as 7? 7 means quite low quality right?

    Is it correct as it is or it should be as "Ogg Quality" (0 = low, 9 = high)?

    Hi!

    The quality measures refer directly to the standard of variable bit rate (VBR) encoding established by the mp3 and ogg/vorbis. Unfortunately, the semantics of the quality number of mp3 and ogg are inverse. In order not to confuse those used to the command line tools like lame and oggenc, I kept the original semantics given by the file format.

    Btw., q=7 for VBR mp3 encoding with lame still gives a quality which I guess should be perfect for radio (and results in a quite moderate CPU usage). But of course you are free to change the settings to your needs:)

    Hmm... ok. Sounds like your $KDEDIRS variable is not pointing to the right locations. $KDEDIR is usually pointing to the primary KDE installation directory, However, you can set $KDEDIRS (plural!) to point to $KDEDIR _AND_ additional installation directories. Otherwise KDE will not be able to find not only libraries but also icons, etc. My recommendation for your setup is therefore:

    export KDEDIR=/usr/local/kde4
    export KDEDIRS=$KDEDIR:/usr/local

    Hope that helps.

    Do you like or dislike Ubuntu Unity?
     Yes, unity is alien technology!
     It is less confusing than Gnome 3 default, shell.
     Granny thinks it is much more usable than Gnome 2
     Canonical is embarrasing itself with this split project
     Gnome 3 default shell is much better
     I dislike Unity, Gnome 3 default shell is alien technology!
     None of the above, I like the 2Gb for free and Apple alike behavior. Will post a comment instead
