 Speex meta-data

by crazybus on: Jul 17 2007

Score 50%

I really love how this program automatically add's the meta-data to the encoding options for speex files. However I have been decoding files to wav in order to change their sample rate. This means that I loose the meta-data so that soundkonverter doesn't encode the speex files the way I want (you can only add meta-data to speex files at encoding time) So I was wondering if you could encode a speex file from a wav while still using the meta-data from the original ogg vorbis

I'll see if I can do something like that. But please be patient.

 converting to aac

by overkillm on: Aug 6 2007

Score 50%

I apologize if I overlooked the answer to this issue in previous posts, but I'm having problems converting files to aac/m4a format using faac. Whenever I try to convert to aac in soundKonverter, I get the message:

Quote:
We received an error! Try to change the program for this file format and try renaming the files before converting.
Error:
Freeware Advanced Audio Coder
FAAC 1.24

Cannot encode several input files to one output file.

I seem to get this message regardless of whether I'm processing several files or just one. I have tried from multiple source formats... it seems to work with mp3 and wma but not with flac, ogg, or mpc.

At first I believed this to be an error or limitation of the faac backend, but when I copy the same exact command lines from the Protocol window in soundKonverter to a terminal, the commands execute flawlessly. Why is this? Am I doing something wrong?

Which version of soundkonverter do you use? If you are using version 0.2 update to 0.3. I can't reproduce this error in 0.3.

Okay, I was able to build 0.3.4 from source, and fixed the original problem. However, now when I am converting files to aac or m4a format, the tags are not carried over from the source files.

The files convert properly, I just get no tags. When converting the same files to mp3, for instance, the tags do carry over.

In 0.2 the command line options for faac were used to populate the tags (--artist, --title, etc) but in 0.3.4 the options are not used while converting (at least, not according to the log files)

Is there a library I'm missing, or need to update, or something?

sorry. fixed it, so either wait for the next release or recompile soundkonverter with libmp4v2 support or remove "!tagEngine->canWrite(item->fileListItem->options.encodingOptions.sFormat) &&" from convert.cpp line 448 and recompile.

okay, I removed that text from the file and recompiled using --with-mp4v2, but I'm still not getting any tags in my m4a files.

so soundkonverter doesn't append the tag switches to faac (--artist etc.)? that's strange, for me it works. maybe i changed more than i thought. but the next version should be available soon.

 nothing but problems

by nbecker on: Aug 10 2007

I grabbed the rpm for Fedora 7 from
http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/HessiJames/Fedora_7/

I tried to transcode ogg -> mp3, but all I got was silence.

Next I grabbed the current soundkonverter source, but it won't build. I get:
make[1]: Leaving directory `/home/nbecker/soundkonverter-0.3.4'
cd . && /bin/sh /home/nbecker/soundkonverter-0.3.4/admin/missing --run aclocal-1.9
/home/nbecker/soundkonverter-0.3.4/admin/missing: line 52: aclocal-1.9: command not found

I've got:ls /usr/bin/aclocal*
/usr/bin/aclocal /usr/bin/aclocal-1.4 /usr/bin/aclocal-1.6
/usr/bin/aclocal-1.10 /usr/bin/aclocal-1.5 /usr/bin/aclocal-1.7

hi,

if you want to compile soundkonverter with autotools > 1.9, you need to run automake first.
but i don't think that this will solve the problem.
in ~/.kde/share/apps/soundkonverter/logs you'll find some log files.
run soundkonverter, try to convert and send me all the log files before closing soundkonverter.

maybe that helps.

 Crash report

by sjames on: Aug 15 2007

Score 50%

Hi, I really love this app. I built version 0.3.4 from source and it works perfectly with one exception.

Sometimes it gets stuck moving a file. I believe this is caused by the presence of apostrophe marks in the source filename. The status will be "Getting file: 100%" and it won't do anything. When I choose "Stop immediately" the program crashes. Here is the "backtrace" from the KDE crash handler (I hope it's helpful):

Sorry! I don't think it's the apostrophe mark after all, maybe the ` mark or some unknown character that was causing soundkonverter to get stuck on "Getting File".

I have the same problem. I am converting from wma to mp3 and whenever I put more than 5 files into the queue there mostly is at least one file not getting moved. When I stop the convertion, soundkonverter crashes but the "buggy" files are still in the queue when I restart the program. When I have a look at the files, the "buggy" files have only been partly converted.

So far I always delete the half done mp3s and do the convertion again.

I am using soundkonverter 0.3.3 and Kubuntu feisty fawn.

in the next version soundkonverter uses 'cp' for copying local files. i don't know if that will fix this problem but in my test it worked. the next version will be available soon.

 Broken --with-mp4v2

Hi,

When configured with --with-mp4v2, the compile process stops at src/metadata/mp4, which doesn't have any source files, just a Makefile skeleton.

Thanks,
Andrei

How do you like Plasma 5?
 The best KDE Desktop ever.
 Definitely a nice improvement.
Not decided yet. Haven't tried it yet.
I do not like some of the changes.
KDE is taking the wrong way.
I am still sticking with KDE 3.5.
I have no opinion, but wanted to vote anyway.
