 Nice application!

by JeffroTull on: Mar 11 2012

Score 50%

This seems like a great little application! I'm able to quickly take the Vorbis files my CD collection turned into and make them MP3's that my phone gets along with!

My only issue is that I can't seem to convert FLAC files I got from Bandcamp. Those files play fine in Amarok and on my Sansa Clip, and FLAC I personally created convert just fine, but the ones I purchased don't want to be converted for some reason.

Could you please send me the log of such a file.
You can send it directly to hessijames gmail com.

Here's how to do that:
1. Try to convert the file.
2. Then open the "Log Viewer" by clicking on "Conversion" in the menu bar and selecting "View logs...".
The Log Viewer will now open in a new window.
3. By default the Log Viewer will show the log of the soundKonverter application, sending me this log won't hurt.
4. But the more important log is the log for the file you just tried to convert in step 1. To see that log, click on the combo box (drop down box) at the top of the Log Viewer window and select the file.
5. To save a log to a file, click on the "Save to file..." button on the bottom of the Log Viewer.
6. Attache latter or both log files to your bug report.

I found the bug, it was supposed to be an optimization in the last release :(
You can check out the git repository or wait for the next release - which will probably be soon.
Thanks for reporting this bug,
Greetings Daniel

Glad I could help!

I tried compiling from source to check out your fix, but I'm having some runtime problems. It's been a good while since I've done any appreciable amount of compilation, and none of it on my current distro (Arch Linux x86_64). I'll have to do some poking around to make sure I have everything set up properly on my end.

In the meantime, for anyone else who sees this: the problem I described showed up in version 1.3.3-1 as delivered by Arch's Community repository.

I think I have the same issue, when I try to convert flac file I have an error message in log "no more backends left to try :(" and this is compilation from aur community repository the version 1.3.3-1, and when I tried to compile by my own from git reposytory everythings is working fine.

 Conversion of lyrics tags

by imruska on: Apr 6 2012

Score 50%

SoundKonverter is a very nice program, and it gets better. Would it be possible to transfer the lyrics tag during conversion?

Another question. When converting to Vorbis files, the comment tag is written as DESCRIPTION. Could you make the option to choose between DESCRIPTION and COMMENT (just as Kid3 tagging program does)?

Thanks for your feedback.
Transferring lyrics is on my todo list.
Regarding the vorbis comments. They are written using taglib which follows the standard: http://www.xiph.org/vorbis/doc/v-comment.html
Could you name some applications that use the COMMENT field and can't handle the DESCRIPTION field?

Creating one file out of many

by imruska on: Apr 6 2012

Could you add the possibility to create one file out of several? E.g. when converting 4 flac files into mp3 creating one unified mp3 rather than 4 separate ones?

I had this idea once but it would be too complex to integrate into soundkonverter. This task should be done with a different application.

 Missing Cmake dependency

A minor point but Cmake didn't warn me that I didn't have libkcddb-dev installed. You may want to add that as a dependency.

Nice app all the same!

Unfortunately ubuntu 12.04 is not available on the open build service yet. I'll add it as soon as it gets possible.
Meanwhile why not try to install the 11.10 package. I don't use ubuntu but on opensuse this is usually possible even though the package manager warns you about some conflicts.

Thanks for the update !

I've just installed the 1.4.90 version and it works like a charm on Kubuntu 12.04.

There aren't 1.5.0 binaries (i386 nor amd64) for xUbuntu 12.04, there are only up to 1.4.90.

(soundKonverter is great!)

How do you like Plasma 5?
 The best KDE Desktop ever.
 Definitely a nice improvement.
Not decided yet. Haven't tried it yet.
I do not like some of the changes.
KDE is taking the wrong way.
I am still sticking with KDE 3.5.
I have no opinion, but wanted to vote anyway.
