 Bug report: ffmpeg

by pequatre on: Aug 1 2006

Score 50%

Hello. I couldn't find the bug tracker for soundkonverter so here it is.

Bug: when calibrating an audio format using ffmpeg, for instance, .rm, the following message is issued, and it seems transcoding with ffmpeg doesn't work.

" This is the last message, we recived from the backend:
ffmpeg version CVS, build 3276800, Copyright (c) 2000-2004 Fabrice Bellard
configuration: --extra-cflags=-fomit-frame-pointer -DRUNTIME_CPUDETECT --build i486-linux-gnu --enable-gpl --enable-pp --enable-zlib --enable-vorbis --enable-libogg --enable-theora --enable-a52 --enable-dts --enable-dc1394 --enable-libgsm --disable-debug --prefix=/usr
built on Nov 24 2005 10:19:02, gcc: 4.0.3 20051121 (prerelease) (Ubuntu 4.0.2-4ubuntu3)
ffmpeg: unrecognized option '-hq'
The command was:
ffmpeg -y -hq -i /tmp/kde-anne/soundkonverterG3Ft6b.wav /tmp/kde-anne/soundkonverteraCUZQa.wav.rm

How to reproduce the Bug:
In Soundknoverter, Go to Settings --> Configure soundkonverter --> En, Decoder --> scroll down and in the rm, click on "Calibrate". The error message pops up.

It's probably just a malformed command line, as i've check in "man ffmpeg" that the "-hq" setting does exists, it seems though that it should be among the "output" options rather than the "input" options. (that might be the case for "-y" also).

Version:

- ffmpeg version CVS, build 3276800, Copyright (c) 2000-2004 Fabrice Bellard
configuration: --extra-cflags=-fomit-frame-pointer -DRUNTIME_CPUDETECT --build i486-linux-gnu --enable-gpl --enable-pp --enable-zlib --enable-vorbis --enable-libogg --enable-theora --enable-a52 --enable-dts --enable-dc1394 --enable-libgsm --disable-debug --prefix=/usr
built on Nov 24 2005 10:19:02, gcc: 4.0.3 20051121 (prerelease) (Ubuntu 4.0.2-4ubuntu3)

cheers.

Hi, I'm currently not at home, but I think you should update your plugin files (e.g. via the config dialog). Because of some problems with different ffmpeg versions I've disabled the '-hq' option.

Ok i'll try that.
By the way, as a feature request:
what i liked in cdex is that it allowed you to set your destination directory once and for all.
For instance when i rip a cd with cdex i fill in the metadata with cddb (or manually) and then i click extract and the files are automatically created in /new_cd/%artist/%album/...
I know your software is not a ripper but if i convert, say, some .mpc files to .mp3 i don't want the mp3 files to be mixed with the .mpc files.
I'd rather soundkonvertor sets its default directory to a custom directory such as /home/usr/my_converted_mp3_directory/%a/%b/
That directory would be set in the options. I don't like SourceDirectory being the default one.
Too bad also there's not an option for the prefered destination format, i have to set it to mp3 each time (it defaults to ogg).
see how cdex or eac work if you don't see what i mean.
In a nutshell, i'd like "profiles".
That was a long explanation for some simple feature request :)

cheers and thank you for your software.

Thanks, I'll have a look at this.
And custom profiles are implemented in the current development version. But of cause this can still be improved. Have a look at it, when I got rid of all the bugs (far too much at the moment).

 nice

Hi,

great app.
a few suggestions:
1. a context menu for the box with to-be-converted files would be nice (for remove selection,...)
2. don't write temporary files to the output-directory but to a tmp-directory.
I tried to convert a few files directly to my memory stick but got an out-of-space error, because the wav-file was too big.
3. the log seems to only show the log of the last command executed, you can't see output from previous conversions.

hi, thanks for your comment.
it seems that you are using the stabile version 0.2. in the current development version 0.2.80 this is all implemented (at least partly). have a look at the project homepage, there you can get it.

 comma in file names

by korpe on: Sep 17 2006

Score 50%

Hi,

i don't know if anybody already mentioned this quite obvious bug(?). My version of the soundKonverter is not able to convert files with filenames that include a comma. Because the filename of the generated wav-file ends at the position of the comma. So the encoder is not able to find the original filename with the "wav"-ending.

I'm using soundKonverter 0.2 rc2

Is it the right place to post this message here?

cheers,
korpe

hi,
yes this is the right place to report bugs.
it would be good, if you could give an example.
you could also try out version 0.3 alpha1. it is not feature complete, but should work properly. this version works around all these 'filename' problems. so it isn't really remunerative to fix v. 0.2.

select "By meta data" as output and enter something like "/home/hifi25nl/%b/%d - %n - %a - %t" (should be default).

 MP3 tags

by canute on: Nov 7 2006

Thank you for a great program. I am getting close to dropping Windows now because of it. One thing I have noticed is that when I convert FLAC to MP3 using Lame the genre tags seem a little messed up. The idv1 tag is correct but the idv2 tag is the genre string. Hence in some programs a number is displayed. I'm new to Linux so I do not knw if this is a fault in soundkonverter or my computer (ie xine needs to be configured). I am using the 0.2 release for Ubuntu. I would be grateful for your advice. Thanks.

hi,
thanks, for your comment. i'm using taglib for tagging. so it seems to be taglib's "fault". but i'll have a look at it this weekend. at the moment i'm busy.

Have a look at http://mail.kde.org/pipermail/taglib-devel/2006-October/000518.html to find out, why the genre tag is not displayed correctly in all applications. Taglib seems to do everything right and some other programs are not intelligent enough or they are wrong implemented.
I have added a 'hack' to soundkonverter, that rewrites the id3v2 genre and year tags, so that at least xmms can read them.

Thank you for the information. I have read that iTunes plays fast and loose with id3 standards. I believe Foobar has a compatibility mode to accommodate it.

Hello,

Very nice program and esp. with beta1. But if I try to ebuild with --enable-final (using kdeenablefinal as use flag) I get the following error:

How do you like Plasma 5?
 The best KDE Desktop ever.
 Definitely a nice improvement.
Not decided yet. Haven't tried it yet.
I do not like some of the changes.
KDE is taking the wrong way.
I am still sticking with KDE 3.5.
I have no opinion, but wanted to vote anyway.
