 Feature request

by RenanBirck on: Dec 19 2006

Score 50%

Hello,

I am using soundKonverter to "standardize" all my MP3's at 128kbps for portable devices. So far it works OK but I would like to see a new feature:

What I would like to see is an option to overwrite the original file with the new encoded file.

How hard would it be to implement it?

Thanks!

it wouldn't be hard to implement, but i don't know if it would be a good idea because at the moment soundkonverter never overwrites files. so you cannot damage anything with it. if there was an option for overwriting files, you could select this option by accident.
maybe i could add an advanced option in the config dialog. i'll think about that.

 Pipes?

by akuaku on: Dec 19 2006

Creating intermediate .wav-files seems unefficient. Why doesn't this app use pipes?
Is it, because some encoders can't in/output to stdout?

yes, i wanted to make an universal frontend and though most backends support pipes, all apps support reading/writing wav files. i know that this is a little bit inefficient, but most time is spend on converting the data, so the performance loss is minimal. i've tested it just now: (mp3->ogg)
without pipes: 22,71 sec
with pipes: 22,31 sec

 Good job!

Hi there,

thanks for giving us soundkonverter - the tool rocks!

But there is one thing, that could be improved. The cuesheet-editor is not that good. It is well enough to use it, but wouldn't it be better if:
* I do not have to type the time of the duration of the song, but the actual time in the track?!
* there could be a GUI looking more like this: http://www.stutenandy.de/cue.php (but with automatic growing colums)
* Maybe it would be great to have a little player, playing the song. With seek-buttons, I will find the exact point and than I will press the "set cue-point"-Button (may be also on the fly ;) )
Do not misunderstand this posting. Your tool is greater, but could be better ;)
thx.
MAW

hi, thanks for your suggestions. and as i already mentioned, i'll look for that when implementing the next version for kde4. so you'll need to be patience. if you can't wait, try mp3splt/mp3splt-gtk.

 Typos in XML Code

by emacs on: Jan 9 2007

Score 50%

Hi,

I'm using soundKonverter 0.3rc1 and I have noticed some errors/typos in the XML configuration files. Instead of period there's a comma in plugins/110.oggvorbis.soundkonverter.xml at line 13 ("seperator" field). This makes the OGG/Vorbis plug-in unusable. Also, all the XML plug-in files have "separator" misstyped as "seperator". Otherwise, it's a very useful application and thanks for making it available!

Hi and thanks.
I've fixed the typos, but they haven't caused any problems, since it was mistyped in the source, too.
I have also changed the separator for ogg to ".". But "," works nice on my system, too. And I choose it, because the output is displayed with an ",". But when changing the output pattern in the plugin file to contain a ".", it still works.
So everything is a dot now - but it's strange. ;)

Thanks Daniel! That was prompt :-) As you said, the typo was harmless because it was consistent, but the comma made oggenc exit on my system. The weird part is that when I launch oggenc -q 5,5 manually it keeps going and behaves as oggenc -q 5. When I changed to a period in the XML file, everything worked properly, and ps -ef showed oggenc running with fractional quality.

 Ogg format

Great app, just wondering if I'm missing something though...

I can only select a Mono output for the .ogg format. Should that really be the case?

yes, oggenc only provides the "--downmix" switch. So you can encode files as mono or leave it stereo. there is no option to enforce stereo.

configure: error: could not find cdparanoia headers

I do have the devel packages installed version 9.8A. Is it looking for another version? The distro is Ark Linux (http://arklinux.org).

i'm sorry, i don't know why it doesn't work on some systems.
open the configure.in.in file and remove the cdparanoia stuff. then it should work.

How about this. You come to #arklinux on freenode.net and lets see if we can figure out why its not working. Better to fix it than to ignore it. I'll be at #arklinux in about 2 hours.

Its good app, and I'm more than happy to help where I can.

How do you like Plasma 5?
 The best KDE Desktop ever.
 Definitely a nice improvement.
Not decided yet. Haven't tried it yet.
I do not like some of the changes.
KDE is taking the wrong way.
I am still sticking with KDE 3.5.
I have no opinion, but wanted to vote anyway.
