Kopete KTTS Plugin

   1.3.0

KDE Accessibility Application

Score 80%

Minimum required   KDE 3.4.x
Downloads:  3354
Submitted:  Nov 1 2005
Updated:  Jul 12 2006

Description:

This is a plugin for Kopete, that let's you use the KTextToSpeech subsystem in various ways.
It can announce messages (including saying the senders name), read messages and announce status changes (again, including saying the contacts name). It is also highly configurable: global settings can be overridden on a per contact basis, each contacts name can be overridden internally to set it to something properly pronounced by the subsystem. A properly set up KTTS subsystem is required.

Changelog:

new in 1.3.0:

- for those who really want it: it can also read outgoing messages now :)
- new option to only announce/read messages if they start a new chat session, so you won't be bothered by consecutive messages

sorry, no localized status announcements yet :(

 localization

Status changes should be localized. Since you can set a custom text for incomming messages there's no problem there, but there is in the announcements of status changes.

By the way, it works very fine in my computer, nice work.

Great plugin! :-)
How about adding an option "read outgoing messages"?

are you serious about this? i think i thought about it sometime before, but i could not come up with a reason why you would want your outgoing messages read out loud...

It would be like hearing a true conversation. Sometimes there is some other person with me who wants to follow the conversation, and hearing it doesn't need that person to sit next to me and read the screen.
I don't know if it could be also useful for visually impaired people. Maybe that would just help checking if the message was correct.

Please.

It's is great plugin, but hearing "got message.." , "got message..." while talking or when siting next to computer and not wishing to stay from the bed is soooo irritating.

Please add "do not talk often than once a XXX second for one contact" or smth like that to make this plugin stop jabbering too much without loosing any notification about someone demanding attention.

Thx.

It would be really cool if I could change the reader on a per contact basis... I would like to use a female reader for my female contacts and Male for my Male contacts

Do you like or dislike Ubuntu Unity?
 Yes, unity is alien technology!
It is less confusing than Gnome 3 default, shell.
Granny thinks it is much more usable than Gnome 2
Canonical is embarrasing itself with this split project
Gnome 3 default shell is much better
I dislike Unity, Gnome 3 default shell is alien technology!
None of the above, I like the 2Gb for free and Apple alike behavior. Will post a comment instead
