Description:

KVideoEncoder is a GUI for the mencoder and transcode;

my goal is to write a kind of TMPGEnc Clone for linux with additional features.
For example, KVideoEncoder supports joining of two or more videos and dvd-ripping.

Changelog:

Sorry everybody, but I just don't have the time to work on KVideoEncoder at the moment.
0.09 should came with a new dvd reading engine, build with some great patches I've received and some other new features, but...
I've uploaded the current status for you, maybe dvd-reading is broken on some systems, but the annoying language bug is fixed.

I've got much to do now (work, etc) and this is the moment where the OSS-thing become important.
I've got space for a website and a CVS at sourceforge, maybe somebody could help me to set these things up? And maybe we could continue developing KVideoEncoder together.

Changes (0.09beta2):
===================
- Added support for UTF-8
- Language bug fixed

Changes (0.08):
==================
* 1 Bugfix
* Some minor improvements (thanks to Алексей Кузнецов)
* Crop filter added
* Translations updated
* Czech translation (thanks to Robert Stodulka)

Changes (rc2):
===================
* file encoding repaired (mencoder).

Changes (rc1):
===================
* Nine bugfixes, including:
- #25: DVD-ripping repaired (mencoder).
- #26: MPEG-Encoding should work with the new versions of mencoder.
- #29-31: Some crashes fixed.
- #32: Xvid multipass encoding repaired (mencoder).
- #34: No crash if your PC/notebook doesn't have any IDE devices.
* Audio PCM encoding
* Error handling (mencoder)
* Some design improvements
* Some improvements related to the configure script and the makefile.
* transcode improvements
* New Tool: FLV2MPEG

==========================
Please note that transcode may not work when you try it. The problem is, that - for example - you've round about five different ways to encode an MPEG file; which one the right for is depends on your transcode installation and the installed modules.
KVideoEncoder must deal with this problems but that doesn't work very good at the moment. I'm working on it and I hope that you can help me (write comments, etc).

 mencoder code-error

 by ndo on: Nov 19 2005

Score 50%

Hi.
If you try to use audio compression then you'll probably get this:
"mencoder -o '/dl_uf/dl_uf1/Downloads/KVideoEncoder/test.mpg' -oac lavc -ffourcc divx -ovc lavc -lavcopts vcodec=mpeg4:vbitrate=800:keyint=100:dia=1acodec=mp2:abitrate=128 -srate 44100 -dvd-device /mnt/temp -aid 0 dvd://02
MMX2 supported but disabled
SSE2 supported but disabled
File not found: 'frameno.avi'
Failed to open frameno.avi
The dia option must be an integer: 1acodec=mp2"
Because in file mainform.ui.h in line 300 there is the ":" missing before "acodec=mp2"... also in line 303.
Hope that will help you ;-)

 other encoder

hi!
could you not use another encoder? i mean there are so many mencoder frontends nowadays, although mencoder is very limited.
on the other hand there are no frontends to newer and better encoders like vlc(videolan) or gstreamer. these two encoders support much more video and audio codecs and developement is more active, please consider this!
i would love to see a good kde encoder that suppport the new ogg formats like theora.
thanks

MEncoder is probably the best encoder available today, seriously. OGG sucks, completely, I've seen the spec, I've written a demuxer, you should NOT use it. Theora is useless, MPEG-4 is just as good and just as "patent free" (don't believe everything they tell you). 2 Major flaws of MEncoder - it cannot encode vorbis (which actually IS good), and it can only mux to AVI and MPEG. Both of these can be resolved using tools after the encode (mkvmerge, oggenc), and this is better off.

Someday KVideoEncoder will support ffmpeg, transcode and the other encoders.
But it's very complicate to add more encoder.

I'm curious, why did you make this new frontend?.. I've taken a look at it, and it's not very good TBH. Just curious, have you seen Kmenc15 ? It might have been better if you had further developed existing frontends instead of making yet another one.

On a completely different note, do NOT write 'DivX 4/5' in your program as describing the LAVC encoder, DivX is a crappy, windows codec which encodes and decodes a (non-conformant) MPEG-4 video. LAVC (library that is in MEncoder to create MPEG-4) does the same, only much much better. You should write 'MPEG-4' as the description of the option in your program, or even better 'MPEG-4 ASP' or 'MPEG-4 Part 2'.

I've tried KMenc15 and the other frontends, but I don't like them since they do not support the features I use.
Of course KVideoEncoder is not very good yet - it's version 0.05.

DivX 4/5 is the name of the codec in the mencoder man page. Just take a look at it.
BTW: If you select this, you'll get a AVI with DivX and not an MPEG 4.

The thing is. DivX uses MPEG-4 Part2.

Yes, but mencoder can only produce three file types:

- MPEG 1/2
- AVI
- raw

Or spits a newer version than mine an MPEG 4 out?

Are there some things you would like to see in KVideoEncoder?

Yes I would like to see a couple of things.

I would like to have the ability to control the size of the mpeg created. For example the film classic My Man Godfrey is now available on http://www.archive.org/details/my_man_godfrey (a great film you should see it) and I wanted to make a dvd out of it. The file is 5.3GBs. I wanted to reduce it to 4.3 without losing any of quality.

Next the ability to create dvix files. dvix files are much smaller without any lose of video/audio quality and make a better choice for storing films on your computer.

Thanks!!

DivX encoding is possible. It was the first codec in KVideoEncoder.

The size of MPEGs...hm...
I'll see what I can do.

Also, gentoo ebuild anyone?

It is not the size of the hammer that counts. It's how you wield it.

Ok, I uploaded to screenshots.

Yes, a gentoo ebuild would be fine. Maybe somebody could make one? (I'm using Debian)

The mencoder produces MP3 audio via lame, therefore I had not coded this feature.

But likely it'll be in version 0.06.

How do you like Plasma 5?
 The best KDE Desktop ever.
 Definitely a nice improvement.
 Not decided yet. Haven't tried it yet.
 I do not like some of the changes.
 KDE is taking the wrong way.
 I am still sticking with KDE 3.5.
 I have no opinion, but wanted to vote anyway.
