Description:

KVideoEncoder is a GUI for the mencoder and transcode;

my goal is to write a kind of TMPGEnc Clone for linux with additional features.
For example, KVideoEncoder supports joining of two or more videos and dvd-ripping.

Changelog:

Sorry everybody, but I just don't have the time to work on KVideoEncoder at the moment.
0.09 should came with a new dvd reading engine, build with some great patches I've received and some other new features, but...
I've uploaded the current status for you, maybe dvd-reading is broken on some systems, but the annoying language bug is fixed.

I've got much to do now (work, etc) and this is the moment where the OSS-thing become important.
I've got space for a website and a CVS at sourceforge, maybe somebody could help me to set these things up? And maybe we could continue developing KVideoEncoder together.

Changes (0.09beta2):
===================
- Added support for UTF-8
- Language bug fixed

Changes (0.08):
==================
* 1 Bugfix
* Some minor improvements (thanks to Алексей Кузнецов)
* Crop filter added
* Translations updated
* Czech translation (thanks to Robert Stodulka)

Changes (rc2):
===================
* file encoding repaired (mencoder).

Changes (rc1):
===================
* Nine bugfixes, including:
- #25: DVD-ripping repaired (mencoder).
- #26: MPEG-Encoding should work with the new versions of mencoder.
- #29-31: Some crashes fixed.
- #32: Xvid multipass encoding repaired (mencoder).
- #34: No crash if your PC/notebook doesn't have any IDE devices.
* Audio PCM encoding
* Error handling (mencoder)
* Some design improvements
* Some improvements related to the configure script and the makefile.
* transcode improvements
* New Tool: FLV2MPEG

==========================
Please note that transcode may not work when you try it. The problem is, that - for example - you've round about five different ways to encode an MPEG file; which one the right for is depends on your transcode installation and the installed modules.
KVideoEncoder must deal with this problems but that doesn't work very good at the moment. I'm working on it and I hope that you can help me (write comments, etc).

 Damned Qmake

 by mattepiu on: Dec 23 2005

I wished to ebuild this one to replace
Konverter that has gone qmake and qmake
won't work in gentoo (does not allows to
set prefix),so no new releases.

And this one is Qmake too... :-(

QMake is the problem?

OK, I'll try to get rid of it.

Thank you.
Qmake is a problem in Gentoo since it
doesn't allow to specify any prefix or
option.....
Strangely, 0.6+qmake is working fine,
maybe gentoo qmake is now fixed??? I hope
so...

I've started to port the sources to automake but it is very complicated. Do you now something about the autotools and Qt?

The readline error is from missing either /etc/kvideoencoder or ~/.kvideoencoder.
In my case adding
kvideoencoder_en.qm
to ~/.kvideoencoder cleared up the QFile error.
Unfortunately, the segfault sticks around for me, too. (gcc 4 on fedora core 4 with qt-3.3.4, and of course after fixing all the brokenness in the makefile that assumes a particular value of QTDIR instead of taking it from the environment

Turns out that under fedora 4 with qt-3.3.4 one gets a conflict between the generated .ui/mainform.h and the tar file's mainform.h. Apparent (not fully tested) solution is to do make, then cp src/.ui/mainform.h src/mainform.h, then make clean, then make. This gets rid of the bogus header. There may be other bogosities lurking I haven't discovered yet. In the new version of the header, another pointer is declared in the generated class definition, which shifts the location of everything causing memory usage errors if another file (main.cpp) in the gui is compiled using the old header.

Hi,

most of the segfaults are gone in the new version. But the one with the mainform.h is still there :(

I'm using Fedora Core 4, too, and also have the segmentation fault.

I used the version 0.06, the only "special" thing I did was the configure option --prefix=/usr.

I would like to test the program :-)

Other things:
- there are rules for "make uninstall" missing

Because KVideoEncoder does not use automake, it is not the standard configure script. It is one I made myself.
This script does not support the --prefix option, it reads it from kde-config.

I'll try to fix this last seg fault bug.

When ever I shut KVE down, it stays running in the background and I have to use killall kvideoencoder to shut it down for real. What is that all about?

Thanks for the app and your help.

Ok running it from konsole I got this:
KVideoEncoder, Copyright (C) 2005 Philipp Ludwig KVideoEncoder comes with ABSOLUTELY NO WARRANTY. This is free software, and you are welcome to redistribute it under certain conditions. (for details see the file COPYING)Could not install the translation file; maybe ~/.kvideoencoder is corrupted?

With or without the file in place it still continues to run after I shut it down.
Sometimes I get a Segmentation fault when I try to set the language after deleting the file.

The language error means, there is no ~/.kvideoencoder file that contains a transltion filename.
You could the file on your own; just make a new one with your favorite editor. It should contain this line, not more:

kvideoencoder_en.qm

KVideoEncoder stores its translation files in $KDE_PREFIX/share/apps/kvideoencoder
Did you "make install"?

~/.kvideoencoder is there and it does contain kvideoencoder_en.qm, so that's not the problem.

Yep, I did make install. It just doesn't quit after I shut it down. Another interesting thing is my CPU cycles up after I shut it down and stays active until I use the killall command.

This doesn't happen with pre1. I'm going back to that one for now. Unless there are more test you want me to run?

Only one. The fact ist, that KvideoEncoder uses mplayer to get information about a video. In version 0.06 the child mplayer processes keep running.

It would be nice of of you if you would check this on your pc. Thanks for your help.

I no longer think it was a kvideoencoder bug but rather an mplayer bug. I recently upgrade mplayer (major bug fix of latest) thus upgrading mencoder. The problem is gone. So are the segfaults.

Thanks for the tip. Good thinking.
And, of course, great app.

Is there anything else you want me to test before we close the book on this?

Konverter? I took a look at it, but I do not like it. I developed KVideoEncoder since I needed a small, easy-to-use tool for a few tasks. KVideoEncoder should be a small application; Konverter is - in my opinion - a little bit too complicated.

How do you like Plasma 5?
 The best KDE Desktop ever.
 Definitely a nice improvement.
 Not decided yet. Haven't tried it yet.
 I do not like some of the changes.
 KDE is taking the wrong way.
 I am still sticking with KDE 3.5.
 I have no opinion, but wanted to vote anyway.
