Katapult is an application for KDE, written in C++, designed to allow faster access to applications, bookmarks, and other items. It is plugin-based, so it can launch anything that is has a plugin for. Its display is driven by plugins as well, so its appearance is completely customizable. It was inspired by Quicksilver for OS X.

Use alt+space and start typing - you'll be presented with an option to launch something depending on what you've typed.

For example, hit alt+space then type "a" "m" (hit the two keys - no spaces or quotes) and this should offer to launch amarok - hit enter to launch

If you have no notification-area icon - then hit alt+space then ctrl+c to bring up the case-sensitive menu to allow you to configure katapult

We now have a wiki - http://katapult.kde.org/wiki/

I'm trying to compile this with the MIME type patch on Kubuntu Breezy with KDE 3.5.1. Here's what I get:

 multiple results?

Nice app!

But I can't find a way to select one of multiple results. E.g. I have a folder named "kabc", but would also like to launch the program "kabc".

Besides being able to choose between different results (from a dropdown maybe?), one should be able to give the different plugins a priority so that e.g. the application plugin result gets always shown before the file or bookmark results.

BTW, an addressbook plugin would be cool, too, with actions like "Show contact" and "Send Mail", "Chat", ...

To be meant as a replacement for Alt-F2 it isn't very mature yet. When I type e.g. "kjots" it always gives me the folder "kjots" in my home directory and does not propose the alternative to launch the kjots program (which I would expect in first place). And it is not possible to launch a program using parameters or to launch it as another user.

Want excellent hardware recognition and an easy way to install Debian Sid? Get KANOTIX!

this thing is really great! even if it would just serve as a calculator or as amarok song selector... just great! :)

I use menukey to let it open and menukey+winkey to let it close (instead of esc)

really nice thing! .. even if the idea comes from mac osx ;)

 Most Used Apps

I have an idea that i think would improve on katapult When there are multiple matches for a given string, instead of going with the one that is nearest to the beginning of the alphabet,(That is how it works isnt' it)use the app/song that has been entered the most in the past. Most times I use firefox, but whenever I enter firefox(actually fir), I get firefox central instead of firefox web browser. To get to the browser I have to type "fir w"
Just an idea, great app otherwise. :)

How do you like Plasma 5?
 The best KDE Desktop ever.
 Definitely a nice improvement.
Not decided yet. Haven't tried it yet.
I do not like some of the changes.
KDE is taking the wrong way.
I am still sticking with KDE 3.5.
I have no opinion, but wanted to vote anyway.
