KoverArtist is a program for the fast creation of covers for
cd/dvd cases and boxes. The main idea behind it is to be able
to create decent looking covers with some mouseclicks.

The project started from my need for some decent covers for the
films I record from television and then often burn on dvd for

With series I usually start with one or two dvds, and add more as
more episodes are available. So the program - KoverArtist - had
to be flexible enough to handle that. This also requires changing
covers on the fly to use cases that can house more discs.

Version 0.7.6
* Fixed a segfault when opening a project with an existing project open and a disc tab active
(thanks to filochard for reporting).
* (Re)activated help menu.

Version 0.7.5
* Fixed a bug around cddb lookup (thanks to filochard for reporting)

Version 0.7.4
* Added missing "Hide title text on front side" option. Thanks to filochard for reporting!
* Allow program start even if no case definitions are found.
* Use the default case if a loaded project uses an unknown case.
* Added debug and trace log-output commandline options. Default log output level is now info.
* Fixed switching to the new disc's tab page when a new disc is added.
* Fixed disc tabs handling when the number of discs is changed in the project page.
* Fixed a crash when loading a project when a current project exists.
* Fixed image file names in saved projects.

Version 0.7.2 and 0.7.3
* Fixed Debian / Launchpad package build

Version 0.7.1
* Added Czech translation (thanks to Pavel Fric).
* Added Netherland translation (thanks to Roger Gabriels).
* Added Debian package structure.

Version 0.7
* KDE 4 port. Finally.
* Current limitations: Drag&drop is not implemented, and the help/manual is missing

Please see the included ChangeLog file for older changes.

 How to change language ?

by tcr on: Aug 6 2008
Score 50%

I'm under Mandriva 2007.0 and I have installed KoverArtist from Mandriva sources (with package manager).

Now, I want put it in French language but I don't know how. I look in the "settings" but nothing to change language... (in source

So, I got to the directories of KoverArtist and I guess which the language files (.po) are missing...

Can I add the languages files ?

If, yes, how change language ?

Thank you,

 CD-R/DVD-R Disc Labels Request

by ChojinDSL on: Sep 12 2008

Hi, great work.

I know this has been requested before:
Printing of labels directly on Printable DVD-R or CD-R if the Printer supports it. I just wanted to give you some pointers.

I'm not sure if all CD-capable Printers do this, but I think that the printer automatically does not print beyond the defined area of the disc, at least when its in CD-Print mode.

Thats at least the way it is on my Canon Pixma IP4000. (I use the proprietary Turboprint driver by the way)

Anyways, I've noticed that I can use pretty much anything to print CD labels even Gimp. The only real requirement is to have a square image, eg. 1000x1000px and to make sure that Cover design is contained within the Circular boundary of the actual CD. As far as I know the printing driver handles the specifics with CD Label printing.

Anyways. My suggestion would be that you simply implement a simple layout template which is square and has the markings of a CD (with adjustable outer and inner ring) so that you have a visual guide to see where the image would get cut off.
I don't think you have to get funky with the printing mechanism itself.

When I print labels in Gimp, I usually use a pre-existing CD Label image (which I downloaded from somewhere) as a template. Its a bit of a hassle, but it works. I basically load the template image, then make a new layer with 75% opacity so that I can see the boundaries, and then create the label on that new layer. Once Im done I change the layer opacity to 100% and print. Like I said, the actual image file itself is square and can be of any resolution.

If you wanted to implement CD Label printing, I would suggest, simply make a basic option for a CDlabel template and let the printer driver handle the rest. Oh yeah, and a nice function with the template would be to be able to adjust the inner and outer ring. This helps with some Printable Discs where the inner Ring is not printable, or has a different Size than expected.

Export to image & add lables

Hi!!Your program is great, but I have a new feature request for you, if it's possible. Can you add the possibility to export the cover to image file (png, jpg), and to add new lables anywhere in the layout?

Thank you.

Is koverartist abandoned ? If not, is a Qt4 port considered ?

I am still here, and also did a QT4 port several months ago. But I also wanted to use OpenGL for rendering, which I added too. But it was too complex to implement. And now I am with a half done QT4 port. Probably a good idea to start over but use the rendering engine as it is now, and then replace it later.

Kind regards,

 Image resolution

by pstephenson on: Aug 26 2009

This is very useful software, and generally does a very nice job. One problem I am having with it, however, is that the resolution of images, when printed, is very low. The images appear to be rescaled to only about 400 or 500 pixels across. This is really too low. (Note that this is only the images, not the text that Koverartist creates.) This despite the fact that the originals are of much higher resolution (say, 2000 pixels across) and the entire image is used (Maxpect option set).

Is there a way for me to increase the resolution used? If not, would you add a method of adjusting this aspect of Koverartist please?

I'm using version 0.5 that comes with Ubuntu

 qt4 port status?

Is there any chance a qt4 port will make it soon? Perhaps beta...
Really miss this app in kde4 and i won't pull in kde3 dependencies to install the 0.5 release again.

Just realize this is the one and only Linux app who really makes it possible to create and print CD AND DVD covers. I've been using is for all my covers, either self-created or image-based.

Good luck to the dev, and lets hear your voice users! I wonder how many of you out there using this briliant software.

How do you like Plasma 5?
 The best KDE Desktop ever.
 Definitely a nice improvement.
Not decided yet. Haven't tried it yet.
I do not like some of the changes.
KDE is taking the wrong way.
I am still sticking with KDE 3.5.
I have no opinion, but wanted to vote anyway.
