This is just what I've been looking for - a decent KDE based NLE.

However, the UI could do with a little polish:

1. The standard toolbar (file new, open, etc.) should really be on the left - as per most KDE apps.

2. The "1 2 3 4" toolbar looks a tad odd - I can see the use of saving custom layouts, but perhaps a way of saving them with a user defined name, and then only accessible via the menubar?

3. The Project list has a "Clips" entry that everything is a child of. Would it not be better to have "Video", "Audio", "Text", etc. entries - and then place each clip under the relevent section? Otherwise the "Clips" is a tad pointless.

4. The "Zoom" icon near the timeline is actually a menu - but this is not obvious by looking at it. Most KDE menu buttons have a triangle to indicate that they are a menu.

5. "Configure Toolbars" dialog has no parent - so appears as a top-level window.

6. Toolbar layout is not saved when app is closed.

7. The "Settings" menu has "Show statusbar", even when the statusbar is initially shown.

...sorry to seem to be complaining, and these are only minor points. But it looks *very* promising! Thanks for resurrecting kdenlive!

Just arrived in time.

Several featured options are hard to find in commercial editors.

By the way, can it do multi-track audio?

Hmm! Let's see!

Yes, it can do multi track audio. Currently there are 3 video tracks and 2 audio tracks in the timeline, but we plan to make this configurable.
Audio clips can be put on any of the five tracks...

 Ark Linux packages

We've added kdenlive 0.3.0 to Ark Linux -- Ark Linux users just "apt-get update; apt-get install kdenlive"; users of other rpm based distributions may want to try the package at http://arklinux.osuosl.org/dockyard-devel/i586/kdenlive-0.3.0-1ark.i586.rpm
or the source RPM at

Nice to have some people making packages! Just one comment: from what I saw, the MLT and MLT++ Ark packages are version 0.2.1. Kdenlive works much better with version 0.2.2 of MLT and MLT++ that were released at the same time as Kdenlive (for example audio mixing and image thumbnails probably don't work with mlt 0.2.1)...
So it would be better if users could upgrade their MLT and MLT++...

Thanks for the hint! We have completely missed those releases - the build server is currently compiling them, they should be in place in about half an hour.

How do you like Plasma 5?
 The best KDE Desktop ever.
 Definitely a nice improvement.
Not decided yet. Haven't tried it yet.
I do not like some of the changes.
KDE is taking the wrong way.
I am still sticking with KDE 3.5.
I have no opinion, but wanted to vote anyway.
