Searching Botev (Bulgarian author)- OK (only in this program I can't read text, encoded in win-1251?). Download - OK. Klick on "open" - "Sorry, this eBook seems to be invalid -
it doesn't contain any text."
That's simply not true I suppose - http://www.gutenberg.org/dirs/etext01/botev10.txt
In the browser I see proper win-1251 encoding. There's perfect text. Or maybe I'm wrong?

Hmm. Try manually downloading the book from gutenberg.org and running

GutenMark ebook.txt output.htm

replacing ebook.txt with the name of the ebook you downloaded, to check whether any errors are occurring there.

Otherwise try running

head "$(kde-config --localprefix)/share/apps/kuten/library/etextno/section01"

replacing etextno with the etext number, to check whether the file actually is empty.

I have added the file GutenMark.cfg to the PATH. Now Kuten work like a charm!

I found that GutenMark and GutenSplit as I recieved them did not have their executable permission bits set. Once I set these as executable (and had them in my path) kuten worked as it should.
