Description:

A kool dock for KDE. It attemps to resemble the Mac OSX dock. This is improved koolDock v0.3 (which is base on ksmoothdock 2.1), which isn't my program, but it isn't officailly developed for about two years.

Features:

App Launcher.
On Screen text display (over icons).
Drag&Drop app list.
Auto-Hide.
Nice hide-show animation.
Transparency.
Xinerama support.
Others.

If you experience problems compiling KoolDock please do the following:
#
# make -f Makefile.cvs
# ./configure
# make; make install

IMPORTANT: For GNOME users - if you experience problems with launchers (can't open and edit), you probably don't have KDEbase istalled. Installing this package should solve this problems.

IMPORTANT: If you have something wrong in settings, and kooldock don't appear, you can run
# kooldock -o
to have preferences window at start.

If you have any problems or bugs with kooldock, you can post information about it in comments or send it to bisiek op.pl (after bisiek insert 'at' symbol).

I prepare only source and I probably can't help with packgages made by other people.

If configure script fails while checking X server, you probably need to install the xlibs-dev package. If it won't help try these: build-essensial libqt3-mt-dev libqt3-compat-header kdelibs4-dev kdebase-dev. Thanks to Mrmonday for the solution.

SVN repository checkout:
svn co https://kooldock.svn.sourceforge.net/svnroot/kooldock kooldock

I can't continue developing Kooldock - I won't stop working on it, but that work will much slower than now. If you want to help - I will help you to understand the code.

Hi,
I'm on a openSUSE 10.2 and I want to try this software, I've started the command "make -f Makefile.dist" but my console gives to me those errors:

vincenzo@linux-gwn3:~/kooldock> make -f Makefile.dist
This Makefile is only for the CVS repository
This will be deleted before making the distribution

*** YOU'RE USING autoconf (GNU Autoconf) 2.60.
*** KDE requires autoconf 2.53 or newer
make[1]: *** [cvs] Error 1
make: *** [all] Error 2

What's I can do?

Vincenzo

Hi

Thanks for info, I hope now it's possible to compile it with autoconf 2.60 or 2.61.
There are also some little improves, one bug fixed, one bug added.

I based on old code, so there could be still some problems.

You have to do:
make -f Makefile.dist
firstly. Configure script will appear after this operation.

Readme is probably outdated, and I have to update it in near future.

What is the difference between ksmoothdock and cooldock? Wouldn't it be more effective to make one application of that sort?

Ksoothdosk is an alternative kicker. Kooldock is based on it.

 New error

by Muschtacio on: Jan 2 2007

Score 50%

When I run ./configure, I still get 'No such file or directory", and when I run make -f Makefile.dist, I get this new error:
./admin/cvs.sh: 651: --version: not found
*** AUTOCONF NOT FOUND!.
*** KDE requires autoconf 2.53 or newer
make[1]: *** [cvs] Error 1
make: *** [all] Error 2

And I know I have Autoconf installed (2.60). Perhaps a small mistake when you edited it to fix the last problem? Please help, I look forward to being able to use Kooldock ! Also, thank you for stepping up to continue the Kooldock project! I am sure lots of others appreciate your work as well as I.

When exactly it happens? In the moment when kooldock starts, or when you are trying to open it?
Where appears the window?

I tried to do similar error, but it never fails:/.
Maybe you have something too new for kooldock, or have installed any kde modifications which make kooldock crash.

Do you like or dislike Ubuntu Unity?
 Yes, unity is alien technology!
It is less confusing than Gnome 3 default, shell.
Granny thinks it is much more usable than Gnome 2
Canonical is embarrasing itself with this split project
Gnome 3 default shell is much better
I dislike Unity, Gnome 3 default shell is alien technology!
None of the above, I like the 2Gb for free and Apple alike behavior. Will post a comment instead
