Description:

A kool dock for KDE. It attemps to resemble the Mac OSX dock. This is improved koolDock v0.3 (which is base on ksmoothdock 2.1), which isn't my program, but it isn't officailly developed for about two years.

Features:

App Launcher.
On Screen text display (over icons).
Drag&Drop app list.
Auto-Hide.
Nice hide-show animation.
Transparency.
Xinerama support.
Others.

If you experience problems compiling KoolDock please do the following:
#
# make -f Makefile.cvs
# ./configure
# make; make install

IMPORTANT: For GNOME users - if you experience problems with launchers (can't open and edit), you probably don't have KDEbase istalled. Installing this package should solve this problems.

IMPORTANT: If you have something wrong in settings, and kooldock don't appear, you can run
# kooldock -o
to have preferences window at start.

If you have any problems or bugs with kooldock, you can post information about it in comments or send it to bisiek op.pl (after bisiek insert 'at' symbol).

I prepare only source and I probably can't help with packgages made by other people.

If configure script fails while checking X server, you probably need to install the xlibs-dev package. If it won't help try these: build-essensial libqt3-mt-dev libqt3-compat-header kdelibs4-dev kdebase-dev. Thanks to Mrmonday for the solution.

SVN repository checkout:
svn co https://kooldock.svn.sourceforge.net/svnroot/kooldock kooldock

I can't continue developing Kooldock - I won't stop working on it, but that work will much slower than now. If you want to help - I will help you to understand the code.

 it works

Hi,

previously I asked you how it doesn't work under kubuntu 6.10

You give me information that doesn't change the problem.

But now, the downloadable debian package works well under my Kubuntu 6.10.

Sincerely thanks for this really great program. Each day I use it now.

Just one question. Can you please add the possibility to change (by right click by example) the name of an added progam.

Second question. Is it possible to have the possibility to put this kooldock on the left, or right or top side on the display ? If not can you prepapre this please ?

Bye,

Miguipda ;)

1. When you click right button on icon, there should appear context menu. First position is 'edit item' - there you can change name (third tab).

2. Yes, it's possible, but there's needed many changes ic code. I'll implement it soon, but not in 0.4.4 yet.

 Problem on Debian

 by public32 on: Feb 5 2007

Hi,
I downloaded and compiled kooldock on my Debian. I am running kernel 2.4-2 with kde 3.2. I tried to compile using your instruction make -f Makefile.dist and it came back saying that I need automake 1.6.1. I used apt-get and installed automake and it showed that I have automake 1.6.3 but after I tried running make again, the same error message came up.

Any suggestions...

Hi

Try to replace in koolodck src/admin/detect-autoconf.sh this line:
KDE_AUTOCONF_VERS="-2.61 -2.60 -2.59 -2.58 -2.57 257 -2.54 -2.53a -2.53 -2.52 -2.5x"
to
KDE_AUTOCONF_VERS="-2.63 -2.62 -2.61 -2.60 -2.59 -2.58 -2.57 257 -2.54 -2.53a -2.53 -2.52 -2.5x"

Thanks for the fix. it worked and make went fine. I then ran ./configure and that was fine and I also ran make install.

What do I do next? I reboot the machine but no change has been done to kde.

When you run kooldock there should appear information how to use it. If you didn't read it, you don't know that kooldock appears when you touch down screen corner. If nothing happens try to run kooldock again.

 Transparency

 by the-wOndErEr57 on: Feb 5 2007

Version info:
/*
*Qt: 3.3.7
*KDE: 3.5.5-0.2.fc6 Fedora-Core
*KoolDock: 0.4.3
*/

The transparency doesn't work. It "grabs" the image of my desktop wallpaper, and uses it as the background. This means that when a screen is maximised, my desktop wallpaper remains as the background for the kooldock. I do not run xgl, aiglx, or beryl. Is this going to be fixed?

I can send you a print screen if it helps.

It's not bug (if you aren't usung 'hide on start'). Kooldock doesn't provide real transparency yet. I'm juts not able to get a current background in realtime. I'll fix it in future, but no for next version.

I've tried moving the cursor all around the bottom, and I cannot get the dock to show up for me to configure it. Does anyone have any suggestions.

How do you like Plasma 5?
 The best KDE Desktop ever.
 Definitely a nice improvement.
 Not decided yet. Haven't tried it yet.
 I do not like some of the changes.
 KDE is taking the wrong way.
 I am still sticking with KDE 3.5.
 I have no opinion, but wanted to vote anyway.
