Description:

A kool dock for KDE. It attemps to resemble the Mac OSX dock. This is improved koolDock v0.3 (which is base on ksmoothdock 2.1), which isn't my program, but it isn't officailly developed for about two years.

Features:

App Launcher.
On Screen text display (over icons).
Drag&Drop app list.
Auto-Hide.
Nice hide-show animation.
Transparency.
Xinerama support.
Others.

If you experience problems compiling KoolDock please do the following:
#
# make -f Makefile.cvs
# ./configure
# make; make install

IMPORTANT: For GNOME users - if you experience problems with launchers (can't open and edit), you probably don't have KDEbase istalled. Installing this package should solve this problems.

IMPORTANT: If you have something wrong in settings, and kooldock don't appear, you can run
# kooldock -o
to have preferences window at start.

If you have any problems or bugs with kooldock, you can post information about it in comments or send it to bisiek op.pl (after bisiek insert 'at' symbol).

I prepare only source and I probably can't help with packgages made by other people.

If configure script fails while checking X server, you probably need to install the xlibs-dev package. If it won't help try these: build-essensial libqt3-mt-dev libqt3-compat-header kdelibs4-dev kdebase-dev. Thanks to Mrmonday for the solution.

SVN repository checkout:
svn co https://kooldock.svn.sourceforge.net/svnroot/kooldock kooldock

I can't continue developing Kooldock - I won't stop working on it, but that work will much slower than now. If you want to help - I will help you to understand the code.

Great work. It would be nice if in the next version it will be improved the interaction with full screen windows. In example, if i have kooldock always on (not hidden) and i open a full screen window, let the user choose kooldock's behaviour (on top or not....)

sry, didn't see the source download :$
(Does the source support 64bit?)
However when I run configure, an error occurs: C++ preprocessor "/lib/cpp" fails sanity check
See `config.log' for more details. But I can't get anything useful out of config.log

Hmm, I don't have 64bits and can't check it. I'll add newest making scripts - maybe it'll help.

I downloaded the latest SVN version.
make -f Makefile.dist goes well
./configure makes an error "checking for X... configure: error: Can't find X libraries. Please check your installation and add the correct paths!"

I was having this problem...

You need to have one of these installed... I am not sure which... Probably the xlibs-dev.

build-essensial xlibs-dev libqt3-mt-dev libqt3-compat-header kdelibs4-dev kdebase-dev

Hope this helps :)

 Kooldock

by mrmonday on: Mar 24 2007

Score 50%

I am using kubuntu 6.10.

When I try to use the .deb file, I get this error message:

ERROR: Dependency is not satisfiable: kdelibs4c2a

The above package is installed, and I have tried re-installing it. When I try to compile the source code, I get an error about X. When I use the old version, in the repositories, it will install and run, but it is very buggy. Any ideas?

Also is there any reason why the vesion in the repositories is still 0.3?

Thanks.

Just tried the new source, when compiling, I still get:

checking for X... configure: error: Can't find X libraries. Please check your installation and add the correct paths!

If I then run make; make install i get:

make: *** No targets specified and no makefile found. Stop.
make: *** No rule to make target `install'. Stop.

It doesn't look like you have updated the .deb yet, so I won't try it yet.

 Feature Ideas

by mrmonday on: Mar 26 2007

Score 50%

As an idea, would it be possible to specify a different icon for open windows, using the "Enable taskbar" feature, some of the icons used for programs use low resolution icons, which become blurry when enlarged. You can change it for applications launchers, but not for open windows.

Also, would it be possible for the "Enable taskbar" feature, where you have launchers as well, use that icon, instead of creating a new one. If you have more than one of a window open, you could group them together under a menu?

Thanks.

Another idea...

Anti-aliased text. It is quite jaggered on my screen.

Thanks.

I think it could be possible, I even thought about it, but I must read more about KDE, because I'm not able to distinguish applications. Now, I can made it only by name of window.

To make anti-alliassing of the text visible, it must be translucent, like kooldock's main window. It's possible, using fake transparency, but I'd rather prepare it for XGL.

Would it be possible to have mouse over effects, like in beryl, so you can see the contents of the window?

I agree with both of these requests, they would be very nice to have. Also, would anyone be able te tell me what "desktop clipping" and "DCOP clipping" are? Thanks, and especially thank you for continuing development on this project!

Desktop clipping clips window area when kooldock is set to not hide - maximized windows won't cover it.

DCOP is for clipping icon area, and icons are moved, that koolodck don't cover them. But, this option don't cooperate with kicker, and koolodck and kicker cancels clipping of each other.

Do you like or dislike Ubuntu Unity?
 Yes, unity is alien technology!
It is less confusing than Gnome 3 default, shell.
Granny thinks it is much more usable than Gnome 2
Canonical is embarrasing itself with this split project
Gnome 3 default shell is much better
I dislike Unity, Gnome 3 default shell is alien technology!
None of the above, I like the 2Gb for free and Apple alike behavior. Will post a comment instead
