Minimum required   KDE 3.5.x
Downloads:  4473
Submitted:  Jan 6 2007
Updated:  May 21 2007

Description:

tweaK is a config tool for editing KDE's various secret and hidden config options.

Changelog:

0.2.2
*really* fixed the kicker option now. It would appear that the ~/.kde/share/autostart does not overlay the $KDEDIR/share/autostart entries in that if you don't set a var in your local copy ... its not set period. So panel.desktop no Exec= ? guess what doesn't start? =)
Sorry about this one guys. should have tested better.

0.2.1
Fixed default for kicker option NOTE: this only affects the users who have never ran 0.2
Anyone who is having problems with kicker not running on startup needs to enable it in tweak or delete the entry found in ~/.kde/share/autostart

0.2
Add option to disable kicker on KDE startup
Added Missing Icon sizes
Added option to disable Access Keys
Added option to disable shutdown/reboot in logout dialog
Reorganized the UI
Fixed bug where Disabling Archive expanding in the sidebar wasn't working

 compiling problems

 by mirshafie on: Jan 6 2007

This is a really good idea. I've been looking for something like this. Unfortunately, I have some compiling problems. Seems make removes the configure script and then tries to find it:

[11:13:53] ~/hda/source/tweaK-0.1 $ make
cd . && rm -f configure
cd . && make -f admin/Makefile.common configure
make[1]: Entering directory `/home/sam/hda/source/tweaK-0.1'
Can't open configure: No such file or directory.
make[1]: Leaving directory `/home/sam/hda/source/tweaK-0.1'
/bin/bash ./config.status --recheck
running CONFIG_SHELL=/bin/bash /bin/bash ./configure --no-create --no-recursion
/bin/bash: ./configure: No such file or directory
make: *** [config.status] Error 127

I'm not exactly used to compiling stuff myself, so if I'm just being ignorant about something normal please point that out.

Thanks!

We want more options!
Where you find this options? or where i can find more ?
And i have one for you: the kmenu's leftside tower image option...

~/.kde/share/config/kickerrc
add:
[KMenu]
SideName=tap.png
SideTileName=bottom3.png

But, for me it's bugous, i'm dunno why, i'm spent a horu for this, but i only can change it successfully once, and then it disappears any optioning....

Sorry for my english, and kepp up good work:)

Thanks I'll test it out.
All the options I found on kde's wiki.
Just search for "Secret" and it'll give you all the options in this applet, and then some, tho I tried to implement as many of them as I could.
The next version will have the don't start kicker option available :)

 smooth scroll option

how about adding the option to enable/disable smooth scrolling?
the command is kwriteconfig --key SmoothScrolling --type bool false

I'd prefer a config file and group/variable name with possible values than a command.
We'd also need to figure out if this is a KDE thing or a distro-KDE thing. I'm not sure I have a smooth scrolling option. still have yet to test out that command. But when I do that'll tell us.

i don't get an error when i type the command kwriteconfig --key SmoothScrolling --type bool true (i guess that turns it on). but i don't see any difference, tough it may only work in certain apps, or after logout/login?

aah, it already is a kcontrol module... great!

btw maybe some of the features can be put into the respective app interfaces, like konqi - close icon on tab on mouseover. the current option could be a dropdown menu, giving more options but not making the interface more crowded.

 archive expanding

I installed the applet some weeks ago especially because of the option "Disable archive expanding", but this one has no effect here - still archives in the tree :-(
Also approached editing konqsidebar.rc manually.
Is this setting limited to special versions of KDE? (3.5.6/SuSE here)
And yes, i did restart KDE.

That applet may not honor this option, you may report that to them.

Ok, i did some research and found the following:

http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=98070

Seems that an entry in the section "General", which is being created by the tewak applet, is being completely ignored.

One has to put it in the top of the file outside of any section.

I intalled tweaK for the setting referred to in this comment. In my case, the setting is honored, and
"ShowArchivesAsFolders=false" now appears in my konqsidebartng.rc file AND the best part is that Archives do not show up in the sidebar any more as Folders.

Thank you very much!

How do you like Plasma 5?
 The best KDE Desktop ever.
 Definitely a nice improvement.
 Not decided yet. Haven't tried it yet.
 I do not like some of the changes.
 KDE is taking the wrong way.
 I am still sticking with KDE 3.5.
 I have no opinion, but wanted to vote anyway.
