Description:

MailKount is an applet for Kicker that regularly checks the number of mails on one ore two pop/imap servers and sends notifications on new messages.
This tool is mainly useful for people who are using webmail and not a mail client such as the very good KMail.

Note that default language for GUI is english. Screenshots show a french GUI just because I'm french and I made french translation.

Please, see homepage for more details.

Let me know if you see some bugs ;)

For next version, I would like to implement SSL but I don't have any email address providing this service. If you know a free email website with SSL+POP+IMAP support, let me know please ;)

NB : version 0.1 may cause some trouble because network queries are synchronous. Please, don't use version 0.1.

Changelog:

Version 0.3.1 :
- Correction of a stupid bug : if you have two boxes and receive 1 mail only on the first box, there was no notification... human error. Sorry!
- Thanks japc for the "EXAMINE" command ;)

Version 0.3 :
- IMAP support added. Requested by jirityr ;)

Version 0.2 :
- Add the ability to choose the color of the font, as requested.
- And much more important, a complete rewrite of the network part using only Qt stuff. The result is now that querying DNS and Socket connection are asynchronous and don't block kicker when connection is down, which was a huge bug of version 0.1.

Version 0.1 : initial release.

Outch, I'm sorry for the troubles.

Well, the problem must be my way of getting the number of new messages... I could test only with my provider.
But it's strange because I test every step of connection ... I tried with false servers, bad login, bad pass and it reacted well with me.

BUT! Since I let it run some hours without testing all day long (which means /configure make and make install every 10 minutes), I had two strange automatic restart of KDE o_O'''.

I admit I don't understand because it's not a low level program and ... the code is very very minimalist.

Now I removed it from my kicker and if I don't have any strange reboots in some hours ... it think I will have to change some things ... but I don't know where :/

Yes, I found and it's a bad pb.

If the server exists (DNS says YES) but does not respond ... the applet is waiting forever.

I tried many fixes but timers seems to interact :/

Sorry for that, I keep try to find a good solution.

BTW, it's not KTorrent ... my KDE on my desktop restarts when he decides to restart o_O'

Thanks for the rpm.
I will add the font color during the day.
If you agree, I will put your rpm (for next version) in the main part ;)

That's a good alternative to kbiff or korn, which are either outdated for the first one or not light enough for the second...
It works nicely here on gentoo (oh, and thanks for the ebuild)
Same remark as above : it would be useful to be able to change font color.

Computers are like air conditionned : They become useless when you open windows.

I don't know, I would have to read some doc about IMAP and SSL.
Furthermore, I don't know if I will have enough free time after next week. :/

 Kmail integration?

Oh! This seems like a perfect app=) One question/feature suggestion, is it possible to get this app to use the accounts from Kmail? Would be a great feature=)

Thanks :)
Honnestly, for Kmail I don't think so because when I started the applet, I had in mind an applet limited to only 2 boxes... I even thought about having only one box during the designing of the configuration dialog ^^.
So I would have to rewrite more or less everything for this .. :'(

Do you like or dislike Ubuntu Unity?
 Yes, unity is alien technology!
It is less confusing than Gnome 3 default, shell.
Granny thinks it is much more usable than Gnome 2
Canonical is embarrasing itself with this split project
Gnome 3 default shell is much better
I dislike Unity, Gnome 3 default shell is alien technology!
None of the above, I like the 2Gb for free and Apple alike behavior. Will post a comment instead
