Description:

SMPlayer intends to be a complete front-end for MPlayer, from basic features like playing videos, DVDs, and VCDs to more advanced features like support for MPlayer filters and more.

One of the most interesting features of SMPlayer: it remembers the settings of all files you play. So you start to watch a movie but you have to leave... don't worry, when you open that movie again it will resume at the same point you left it, and with the same settings: audio track, subtitles, volume...

Other additional interesting features:

* Audio track switching. You can choose the audio track you want to listen. Works with avi and mkv. And of course with DVDs.
* Seeking by mouse wheel. You can use your mouse wheel to go forward or backward in the video.
* Video equalizer, allows you to adjust the brightness, contrast, hue, saturation and gamma of the video image.
* Multiple speed playback. You can play at 2X, 4X... and even in slow motion.
* Filters. Several filters are available: deinterlace, postprocessing, denoise... and even a karaoke filter (voice removal).
* Audio and subtitles delay adjustment. Allows you to sync audio and subtitles.
* Advanced options, such as selecting a demuxer or video & audio codecs.
* Playlist. Allows you to enqueue several files to be played one after each other. Autorepeat and shuffle supported too.
* Preferences dialog. You can easily configure every option of SMPlayer by using a nice preferences dialog.
* Translations: currently SMPlayer is translated into more than 20 languages, including Spanish, German, French, Italian, Russian, Chinese, Japanese....

Changelog:

Version 14.3.0.

* Possibility to play (non-protected) blu-ray discs.
* The control for fullscreen mode has been rewritten and improved. Now it is displayed over the video.
* (Windows) New option in Preferences -> Subtitles to enable or disable the use of the Windows font directory. Disabling this option prevents the annoying font scanning.
* Some presets have been added to the audio equalizer.
* Better support for multimedia keys. This can help control SMPlayer with a remote control.
* The option "Move the window when the video area is dragged" has been fixed.
* (Windows) Now it's possible to open Windows shortcuts (symlinks).
* Better support for Youtube.
* (Windows) Better screensaver disabling.
* Many bugfixes.
* Possibility to compile with Qt 5.

Strange. Could you paste the mplayer log?

Well, I think maybe it's possible.

This is strange.

In first place, in smplayer xv, gl, or whatever, should not display black borders at all. All drivers should display the same image.

The only way is Video->Aspect ratio->4:3 letterbox (or 16:9 letterbox). That adds blackborders.

Maybe you have something in your ~/.mplayer/config that adds blackborders when using gl in mplayer?

i think you dont understand my. Ok. when movie have resolution 620x240 and i watch on fullscren, this is normal i see 2 bick blackboxes. But i cant movie subbtitles on this blackbox (on mplayer with gl-out i can). I can only move subtitles in smplayer on blackbox if i change movie ratio to 4:3 letterbox but now i see blackboxes not only on fullscreen.

Now you understand?

Ok, I see now.

I didn't know that gl worked that way (I have 3D acceleration disabled, so gl is really really slow, I've never played a video on fullscreen using gl).

You can get the same in smplayer by checking the option "Run mplayer in its own window" in Preferences->Advanced.

I'm afraid this is the only way to get that behaviour without adding black borders.

rvm, friend, you have indeed improved implayer.. the remember "equalizer settings" is a wonderful feature. I needed that especially, when i mess up the brightness, contrast, gamma, it would be a painful exercise to reset the equalizer settings..

Many thanks.. My good wishes to you and please go go go.. SMPlayer will rock :)

 by maarizwan on: Apr 6 2007

Score 50%

There are .vob extracted subtitles i.e., vob->.idx+.sub which are not getting loaded with smplayer. and also I can't use custom font with it.. but I could use mplayer to play the file..

mplayer -sub jadewarrior-profile.sub -slang en jadewarrior-profile.avi

Difficult to say without testing those subtitles, but the right way to load idx+sub subtitles in smplayer is by choosing the idx file in Subtitles->Load (not the sub file).

Yes, I have already noticed that (when using Qt-4) sometimes the mouse cursor doesn't appear when it's moved, until you take it out of the video window.

This seems to happen too when using Qt-3 but less often.

I'll try to fix it.

 fullscreen issue.

In a fulscreen mode, the control panel that shows up after moving the mouse cursor to the bottom of the screen makes the picture moves upwards adequately to the panel's height.

It's not a bug but a feature ;-)

The image resizes (or moves) so the control widget never covers it.

I know that probably a lot of people won't like this, and would prefer a control that simply appears over the image.
But this way was the easiest way to implement it.

I'll try to change it in the future, if this is what most people like.

Please don't resize the video when the controls are shown..

because the sudden change of size in the video is visually annoying..

we can set "Resize Video on Controls Display in fullscreen [X]" option..

thanks :)

Right now it's not easy to "fix".

How do you like Plasma 5?
 The best KDE Desktop ever.
 Definitely a nice improvement.
 Not decided yet. Haven't tried it yet.
 I do not like some of the changes.
 KDE is taking the wrong way.
 I am still sticking with KDE 3.5.
 I have no opinion, but wanted to vote anyway.
