Description:

SMPlayer intends to be a complete front-end for MPlayer, from basic features like playing videos, DVDs, and VCDs to more advanced features like support for MPlayer filters and more.

One of the most interesting features of SMPlayer: it remembers the settings of all files you play. So you start to watch a movie but you have to leave... don't worry, when you open that movie again it will resume at the same point you left it, and with the same settings: audio track, subtitles, volume...

Other additional interesting features:

* Audio track switching. You can choose the audio track you want to listen. Works with avi and mkv. And of course with DVDs.
* Seeking by mouse wheel. You can use your mouse wheel to go forward or backward in the video.
* Video equalizer, allows you to adjust the brightness, contrast, hue, saturation and gamma of the video image.
* Multiple speed playback. You can play at 2X, 4X... and even in slow motion.
* Filters. Several filters are available: deinterlace, postprocessing, denoise... and even a karaoke filter (voice removal).
* Audio and subtitles delay adjustment. Allows you to sync audio and subtitles.
* Advanced options, such as selecting a demuxer or video & audio codecs.
* Playlist. Allows you to enqueue several files to be played one after each other. Autorepeat and shuffle supported too.
* Preferences dialog. You can easily configure every option of SMPlayer by using a nice preferences dialog.
* Translations: currently SMPlayer is translated into more than 20 languages, including Spanish, German, French, Italian, Russian, Chinese, Japanese....

Changelog:

Version 14.3.0.

* Possibility to play (non-protected) blu-ray discs.
* The control for fullscreen mode has been rewritten and improved. Now it is displayed over the video.
* (Windows) New option in Preferences -> Subtitles to enable or disable the use of the Windows font directory. Disabling this option prevents the annoying font scanning.
* Some presets have been added to the audio equalizer.
* Better support for multimedia keys. This can help control SMPlayer with a remote control.
* The option "Move the window when the video area is dragged" has been fixed.
* (Windows) Now it's possible to open Windows shortcuts (symlinks).
* Better support for Youtube.
* (Windows) Better screensaver disabling.
* Many bugfixes.
* Possibility to compile with Qt 5.

 Requests again

 by Temet on: Apr 13 2007

Smplayer is cool but I have somethings to ask you... and I hope it's not already asked in another comment :

1/ Can I dream of an option like "make -kdestyle" where the open/save dialog would be the ones of KDE because Qt open/save dialogs are quite ugly and display horribles yellow directories?

2/ I think it would be useful to save the playlist when the player is closed and reopen it when it's launched after.

3/ in full screen, control and option bars move the image, is it possible to display bars over the video?

Thanks for your time doing this great GUI for mplayer.

 equalizer

I tryed Smplayer today,and I think it`s great!And I really like it,
and it has almost everything that I need in movie player except one thing... looks like it`s no equalizer for audio stream.
It could be great if an equalizer will be accessible in the next releases.
Anyway thanx a lot for creating this frontend.

I would like to add an audio equalizer but I'm afraid it would be very difficult (for me).

For video equalizer, mplayer has several slave commands, that allows to change contrast, brightness and so on at runtime.
But I think there's nothing similar for audio (the slave commands: http://www.mplayerhq.hu/DOCS/tech/slave.txt

Looking at the mplayer manual, there's available an audio equalizer as a filter. But any minimum change would require to stop the mplayer process and start it again with the new values. I think this is unacceptable for an audio equalizer and I would probably get a lot of complains if I implemented that way.

Another way to do it, I guess, would be to directy modify the audio output in the mixer or something. I don't know how to do that, but one thing for sure is that it can't be done with Qt, it has to be done natively on every OS.

If I'm wrong or anyone has a hint about how to implement this, I'm hearing.

 Control over video

 by rvm on: Apr 14 2007

As a lot of people has asked that the control widget shouldn't move the video in fullscreen, I finally tried to do it.

In version 0.3.19 there's a compilation option that activates some new code. The option is not set by default because it doesn't work well with Qt 3 (the kde taskbar appears at the same time...)

But after compiling with Qt 4 I realized that it works perfectly!

So if you use Qt 4, edit the config.h file in the src/ directory and change:

#define CONTROLWIDGET_OVER_VIDEO 0
to
#define CONTROLWIDGET_OVER_VIDEO 1
and test it.

There's still a problem: when you're over the control widget the key shortcuts don't work.

And if someone knows how to fix the problem with Qt 3... tell me.

Yep, with Qt4 works, but task bar doesn't appear exactly at the bottom of the screen, there's a black space where kde panel should be. If you change the panel size you can see how that black space fits it.

Got Problems with the controlwidget in 0.3.20.

I cant click on it because it pops up over the curser. there seems to be a gap where the controll panel should be.

Same problem here, with Qt4.
There is a gap where the KDE-Kicker would be.
If I move the cursor up, the controls will disappear.

Ok. I can't try to fix this problem right now, because I'm rewriting and reorganizing the gui stuff (and right now the controlwidget doesn't even exist).

But you can try to "play" with the Qt flags yourself.

Edit file gui.cpp and go to line 1622:
Quote:

controlwidget->reparent(0, Qt::WType_TopLevel |
Qt::WStyle_Customize |
Qt::WStyle_NoBorder |
Qt::WStyle_StaysOnTop,
QPoint(0,0), FALSE);

You can for instance add Qt::WX11BypassWM to the flags, or remove the Qt::WStyle_StaysOnTop. Or you can change the first 0 with this. The list of widget flags: http://doc.trolltech.com/3.3/qt.html#WidgetFlags-enum. You can try different combinations.

Anyway, I'll probably put the controlwidget inside a toolbar, and Qt toolbars can float, so I hope that could fix the problem (I don't think the kde taskbar appears just because of a toolbar).

Qt::WX11BypassWM works fine with Qt 4.3.0beta.
Thanks!

How do you like Plasma 5?
 The best KDE Desktop ever.
 Definitely a nice improvement.
 Not decided yet. Haven't tried it yet.
 I do not like some of the changes.
 KDE is taking the wrong way.
 I am still sticking with KDE 3.5.
 I have no opinion, but wanted to vote anyway.
