Description:

SMPlayer intends to be a complete front-end for MPlayer, from basic features like playing videos, DVDs, and VCDs to more advanced features like support for MPlayer filters and more.

One of the most interesting features of SMPlayer: it remembers the settings of all files you play. So you start to watch a movie but you have to leave... don't worry, when you open that movie again it will resume at the same point you left it, and with the same settings: audio track, subtitles, volume...

Other additional interesting features:

* Audio track switching. You can choose the audio track you want to listen. Works with avi and mkv. And of course with DVDs.
* Seeking by mouse wheel. You can use your mouse wheel to go forward or backward in the video.
* Video equalizer, allows you to adjust the brightness, contrast, hue, saturation and gamma of the video image.
* Multiple speed playback. You can play at 2X, 4X... and even in slow motion.
* Filters. Several filters are available: deinterlace, postprocessing, denoise... and even a karaoke filter (voice removal).
* Audio and subtitles delay adjustment. Allows you to sync audio and subtitles.
* Advanced options, such as selecting a demuxer or video & audio codecs.
* Playlist. Allows you to enqueue several files to be played one after each other. Autorepeat and shuffle supported too.
* Preferences dialog. You can easily configure every option of SMPlayer by using a nice preferences dialog.
* Translations: currently SMPlayer is translated into more than 20 languages, including Spanish, German, French, Italian, Russian, Chinese, Japanese....

Changelog:

Version 14.3.0.

* Possibility to play (non-protected) blu-ray discs.
* The control for fullscreen mode has been rewritten and improved. Now it is displayed over the video.
* (Windows) New option in Preferences -> Subtitles to enable or disable the use of the Windows font directory. Disabling this option prevents the annoying font scanning.
* Some presets have been added to the audio equalizer.
* Better support for multimedia keys. This can help control SMPlayer with a remote control.
* The option "Move the window when the video area is dragged" has been fixed.
* (Windows) Now it's possible to open Windows shortcuts (symlinks).
* Better support for Youtube.
* (Windows) Better screensaver disabling.
* Many bugfixes.
* Possibility to compile with Qt 5.

 ACD and VCD

by maarizwan on: Apr 26 2007

Please see the sources of KMPlayer.. KMPlayer can play VCD perfectly. I hope KMPlayer plays Audio-CDs also, but I did not test that feature with it. Playlist is also populated properly.

You ought to see kmplayer sources for the betterment of SMPlayer.. please!

VCD and ACD support will be very easy for u :)

thanks rvm!

VCD support has been implemented in version 0.3.41.

I really need the people to test it, because I'm not sure I've done things right.

From changelog:
Quote:

* Started the VCD stuff. Now you can play VCD's. But... to implement this feature I used a VCD created by k3b with 2 videoclips. mplayer reports that there are 3 titles in the disc. The first one can't be played (maybe it has control info or something), but that makes that smplayer doesn't get the info about available titles. To "fix" it smplayer will start to play all VCDs from title 2 (instead of 1) but of course I'm not sure if it is safe to assume that all discs (in mplayer) start at title 2. So if you have a lot of VCDs, please test.

 VCD testing..

by maarizwan on: Apr 26 2007

Score 50%

it plays vcd://1 (on fails) it plays vcd://2 but after vcd://2 is end-up playing it does not move to vcd://3..

it is okay to let "vcd://1" fail because some vcds has track 1 (i.e., vcd://1 working)

please create a vcd with atleast 5 tracks.. so that you can verify whether smplayer moves to the new track or not..

thank you :)

It wasn't intended to move to the next vcd title.

But now (version 0.3.42) it will, because now the titles (of vcds and dvds) are added to the playlist.

BTW, I've just read the link you put before (http://www.mplayerhq.hu/DOCS/HTML/en/vcd.html) and according to that, it seems that most vcds really start at title 2.

I'll try to implement support for audio cds soon.

Ah, in the future all titles in dvds, vcds and audio cds will be automatically added to the playlist when the first title starts to play.

it is a very good application !!
the idea to remember the subtitles and the time we were before stoping the video is awesome !
I wished that for kaffeine on kde-bugs but nothing for the moment.
fortunately, smplayer is here :)
just one thing, can we have the option to configure shortcut keys for the keyboard ?
thank you very much !

 playlist..

Have you seen "KMPlayer's" playlist? it is integrated into the window which makes it look nice.

smplayer's playlist is a different window (child widget). Which rather looks like gmplayer.

could you please consider making playlist "Part of SMPlayer window" somewhere like KMPlayer?

KMPlayer or KPlayer?

Anyway it's possible to have the playlist inside the main window.

Edit the config.h and set to 1 the option DOCK_PLAYLIST and recompile.
And tell me what you think.

KMPlayer playlist is good. I compiled with Dock 1 and it's ok but not great.. we need to improve the look and usability of smplayer playlist.

BTW, VCD and DVD tracks are played beautifully, perfectly and correctly :)

Yes, the playlist inside the main window has some problems (specially when resizing).

With Qt 3 is even worse as the scrollbar doesn't show and you can only see a small part of the list.

That's why this option is not activated by default. I'll try to fix these problems but until then I think it's better to have the playlist in a different window.

 vcd slider issue

by maarizwan on: Apr 27 2007

Score 50%

unlike other videos .avi, mpg, mp3, or even dvd://1 (dvd tracks)

VCD slider does not move to the "point of click" where we clicked it. but the slider behaves erratically.

btw, i tried playing vcd in windows but it does not work. Perhaps MPlayer on windows does not play VCDs.

Please see MPUI.. i tried that also.. but you can confirm whether it plays vcds or not.
http://mpui.sourceforge.net/

The good news is that DVDs are working great in Windows XP.

And another good news, i presume is that smplayer has almost reached "Release 1" level.

so smplayer 1.0 soon? :)

It happens to me too. It seems that absolute seeking doesn't work with VCD videos.

You're right, it seems that mplayer in windows can't play VCDs. For that reason now the Open->VCD option will be disabled on Windows.

I think there's still a lot of things to do. For example configurable shortcuts, support for audio cds, a bookmark...

No, smplayer is not intented to be embedded in other applications.
I don't know if it would be possible, I didn't think about it.

Yes, a kpart (like kmplayer) is really missing to be perfect.
So I must use both applications:

  • kpmplayer for websites that embeds media

  • smplayer for media on disk (hdd/cd/dvd)

  • In this respect: continue your great work. ;-)

How do you like Plasma 5?
     The best KDE Desktop ever.
     Definitely a nice improvement.
Not decided yet. Haven't tried it yet.
I do not like some of the changes.
KDE is taking the wrong way.
I am still sticking with KDE 3.5.
I have no opinion, but wanted to vote anyway.
