 a request

hey, thanks for the app. this seems to be nice. However, it doesnt check if the mail is archived i.e. it works only for those mails which are in INBOX. Please improve it so than it can check even if new email is not in INBOX.

Thanks!!

Hm... Only checking the inbox actually was the idea. I have a lot of unread mail which I just archive for reading later if I need to. However I can add an option, so the user can chose what mailbox should be checked. Please be patient :-)

This might be difficult. Apparently gmail doesn't provide such a feature in its atom feed. Does anyone know more about this?
Besides, why would you want a *notifier* to show archived mail (just curious)?

It is possible because I have seen some firefox-extensions which notifies all of your unread mails, whether it is in INBOX or not.

Next, why do I want it...hmm...think of the filters what Gmail provide...and also, the new pop3 feature what can be used to download mails from another email accounts which support pop3. For example, In my case, I download yahoo mails to gmail using pop3. After downloading, a label "Yahoo-Inbox" is automatically slapped on these mails, and archived, so that when I check my gmail account, I just come to know how many Yahoo mails I have. This feature becomes much more useful when you have more than just yahoo account.

This kind of filtering can be done based on many other criteria which indeed makes the email management much easier. If filtering is to be used efficiently, you should provide this feature of checking mails more than just in INBOX. Better would be, fetch the labels automatically from gmail for the user's account and then provide option about which ones to be added in notification.

Thanks and good luck!

I am hoping to see this feature implemented soon! :-)

I looked at the atom feed (in xml) provided by gmail, however it doesn't contain any information about mail *not* in the inbox. The firefox extensions you mentioned must use some different approach. I'm afraid I can't provide the feature you requested myself (at least for now). In case someone else manages to implement such a thing in kgmailnotifier I'll of course gladly try to merge it in to a next release. Just let me know.
Sorry:-(

 config file path

Please change configuration file path to something like ~/.kgmailnotifier or ~/.kde/share/apps/kgmailnotifer

If current path is not writable to user, upon closing program freezes in systray.

Also it would be nice if Kde .desktop file were added to sources.

 Multiple accounts?

Hi,

Thank you for the good work!

Do you think it would be possible in the future to have this support several accounts, for those of us who have more than one GMail address? Thanks! :)

That shouldn't be too difficult. I'll add it to my todo list. But don't expect this too soon. I want to redo the configuration dialog first before I add new features (to avoid a mess). Thanks.

 kcheckgmail diff?

i'm not sure from the description how this is different than what i currently use KCheckGmail
http://sourceforge.net/projects/kcheckgmail

the screenshots look prettier, so i'd rather use this one, but i'm unclear- does this applet notify me when i get a new message in my inbox? also, when it notifies me, does it show a small bit of text from the new email? this is what i would really like, since all KCheckGmail does is tell me there is a new message, but doesn't give me any more information than that...
Thanks!

Yep. That's just what it's meant for. However it won't show any information other than author and subject of the email. So it doesn't really do anything kcheckgmail doesn't.

Also I'm not planning on changing this because I really want this to be a *notifier*, not a blown up mail reader/organizer/...

Anyway, just try it and see if it suits you. Thanks.

Very nice, and it seems a bit lighter than my previous gmail checker.

Do you like or dislike Ubuntu Unity?
 Yes, unity is alien technology!
It is less confusing than Gnome 3 default, shell.
Granny thinks it is much more usable than Gnome 2
Canonical is embarrasing itself with this split project
Gnome 3 default shell is much better
I dislike Unity, Gnome 3 default shell is alien technology!
None of the above, I like the 2Gb for free and Apple alike behavior. Will post a comment instead
