This program has a great potential, unfortunately it's turn to a vaporware like "Duke Nukem Forever"

(search google for term : vaporware )

You can buy the full version but it's completely ... unstable you simply can't work with it.

The stable version beta version 7 was promised since 2005 year, and every time there is only the promises " tomorrow it will be released !", "on the next week...", "it's almost finished...", "I'm packing the program, and will release it two days.."

BUT... 2 years passed and nothing was done...

People who came to developer's site doesn't know that because they can't read, the posts of unhappy customers, because this kind of post are deleted.
And there was a LOT of unhappy customers.

Absolutely no information for customers about the development status, simply NOTHING !!!

That's really S.U.C.K.S.

So guys, stay away of this.
Don't lose your time on this vaporware.

Better take your time and learn to use GIMP...
I know that the user interface is ugly, but at least it's FREE and powerful.

Best regards.

 i agree

main reason for such slow and bad development is that the author wont release the source code...ever. Which is a contradiction, because he thinks he wont ever earn anything of this if he releases it...so it will earn bad reputation by the time a gimp version with better interface comes out and beats it to a pulp on the open source scene.

to author

My best advice is, if you want this to ever get to a working ACTIVE state and become popular (not only on the linux scene, since its the closest pshop clone) is GPL it or find another license which lets others help you and work on it (without paying them, they will do it for free). One man projects always fail. You will earn money from it then too. Believe me,you will. Think about. Why not sell Cds of its special version with a good collection of brushes,screentones,fonts,plugins...
Your marketing strategy is pretty weak and won't get you far.

He should contact a Lawyer, incorporate correctly and create an NDA where he can coordinate with Developers to produce an end product.

Of course, he could target different platforms with varying levels of functionality to justify a fee.

Or better yet, since he's mainly using GNOME why not contact the GNOME Team and create a series of meetings to discuss his goals and concerns therein by get funding and support.

He could get some development help and have his tool actually help drive Linux into the mainstream of the average graphic artist by having this product on every copy of DELL systems running Linux, etc.

He could get easily be well funded and provide this product for free to Linux users.

DELL and other OEMs could use it to help sell their systems to graphics users.

Add the current RAW file support and what not and he could have a product competitive with Lightroom, Aperture, Photoshop, etc.

yes,he could, but he won't..

Gimp dev's are already thinking of group windows and inner tabs, and all the features he has over it wont help him get it far, since it lacks many basic features and its in a stall as it seems.
There are many things to gain from the open source world.GPL doesnt mean free, but there are some people that are too basic to understand it...There is money.Probably alot more than the marketing model he is trying to apply at the momment (add up slow development, buggy app, complains, delays, wrong deadlines, bad reputation...)

even not free,if it goes popular, everybody would be able to crack it or have a serial for it,and it will still be in the same tarpit it is now. (every register to use system has a way to be cracked, dont forget that).

Being open source wouldnt trash the work he has done on it.No, on the contrary,it IS now giving the fruits of it,by giving this opportunity to take a chance and see the gains of it.Being the only close alternative of photoshop's gui only linux (because there are on other systems)+ rapid development (probably get some gimp devs aboard)= world popularity+good product that will be updated and will evolve no mater what + lots of money (not only donations, but money from contracts he will be able to make with serious companies....

but as it seems to me,he wont ,ever and he will die developing it and maybe not get it pretty far. Maybe wait 10 more years to see something happen. Ofcoyurse, pretty soon we will have better alternatives on or plathform than buggy pixel and everybody will forget about it ever existed.

 shame it is closed

The comments here are correct, I think that the author should dual license Pixel, GPL the linux version and keep the
Apple and Windows versions closed, that way the author could benefit from the help of the community and can still make money from the closed source OS users. also, like previous users stated, you can release a "special" *nix version with added features like brushes and filter packs.

there is logic in this method, I think that the author fears losing something if he gpl's pixel.

P.S.
I was going to purchase this program until I found out it was closed and in beta forever. so there is loss for the author by following this path. trying to beat Adobe at their own game is very hard, let the throngs of OSS devs give you a hand making this program great.

Do you like or dislike Ubuntu Unity?
 Yes, unity is alien technology!
It is less confusing than Gnome 3 default, shell.
Granny thinks it is much more usable than Gnome 2
Canonical is embarrasing itself with this split project
Gnome 3 default shell is much better
I dislike Unity, Gnome 3 default shell is alien technology!
None of the above, I like the 2Gb for free and Apple alike behavior. Will post a comment instead
