 Won't compile

I'm just wondering...why on earth do I get an error complaining about autoconf not found? Or an autoconf that is not recent enough.

It says I need version 2.53.

/usr/bin/autoconf --version

gives me 2.61.

I'm no programmer, but I haven't had this kind of problem when compiling from source before. Kinda annoying when there's no recent .deb for my machine.

I'm running Kubuntu 7.04 64-bit and I really want to be able to get this to work. The 64-bit deb for the earlier version works, but the new features sound interesting :)

i think that with the new version (1.7) you don't need autoconf... to compile the kio-slave simply type:
./configure
make
sudo make install
that's all... i think...
if you have other problems ask here...

I do have a package ready, although for some reason it won't display the temperature information. Yes, the developer files for those features are installed and were at compile time but the information still refuses to show. Other programs show the info so I'm not sure where the problem is.

Still, the package can be uploaded as-is if I only knew where and how.

The kio-sysinfo reads the temperature from "/proc/acpi/thermal_zone/THRM/temperature". If the information isn't written here, the temperature section will not shown. Tell me where your other programs read temperature and i fix the sources!

I haven't solved the temperature sensors issue yet, but otherwise it works.

sometimes the admin directory of the tarball is too old, and cannot detect recent versions of automake.

you can edit admin/cvs.sh to make sure that your automake version is supported.

or you can just copy that file from another tarball.

but maybe it is a completely other problem...

which distro do you use??
on kubuntu simply install libhd13-dev to compile the sysinfo (sudo apt-get install libhd13-dev). I think that this package is included in the repository of your distro (if it isn't kubuntu...)

in youe file i found source tarball and patchset
then i compiled hdinfo and sysinfo successfully.

thanks

but i can't found hdinfo project's homepage or source downloads nor in freshmeat, nor in debian repos.
strange thing.

also in system section my distro called ^(K^)K (or something similar)
where from sysinfo gets this string???
i have this string in /etc/issue, but it is a command - not a name!

i can put some readable text in begin of /etc/issue if sysinfo will parse only first string.

Hi!

On mandriva linux, I get this error when I tried to compile it:

I search and found that you use hwinfo libraries (hd.h). Hwinfo isn't compiled on mandriva linux and I can't find the source code to compile it.

I found hwinfo-10.16-3.src.rpm and I extract it. Inside I found hd.h. I copy it into /usr/includes and I get another error:

/usr/bin/ld: cannot find -lhd
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status

What can I do?

Thanks :)

hi!

to compile it i have installed the package libhd13-dev. Search in the mandriva's repository if there is a package similar to this and try to compile.. otherwise try to download the source of libhd13 that i've posted in my last comment (downloaded from ubuntu's repository) and compile it (i can't help you with this step, sorry) and then try to compile the kio-sysinfo. Another way is try to install ubuntu's libhd13-dev converted with alien...

if no one of this way works, i think that the only solution is to comment the graphics part in the sources and compile the kio-sysinfo without this part :(
If someone have other ideas post it here, thanks!

If the first way doesn't work, use the hd.h that you have downloaded; If you still receive this error:

/usr/bin/ld: cannot find -lhd
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status
make[2]: *** [kio_sysinfo.la] Error 1
make[2]: se sale del directorio `/home/gerardo/Compiling/kio-sysinfo-1.7/src'
make[1]: *** [all-recursive] Error 1
make[1]: se sale del directorio `/home/gerardo/Compiling/kio-sysinfo-1.7'
make: *** [all] Error 2

try to modify the line 32841 of configure file in this way:

LIB_KIO="-lkio -lhd" (before)

LIB_KIO="-lkio" (after)

and try to compile.. if i will have other ideas i post here!

Hey!! I did it!! ^^

I used alien to create a rpm from libhd13-dev_13.4-1_i386.deb.

I install it and I could compile and create a rpm for mandriva 2007.1

Here you are the rpm:
http://www.latuberia.net/rpms/kio-sysinfo-1.7-1.mdv2007.1.i586.rpm

and the library on rpm too:
http://www.latuberia.net/rpms/libhd13-dev-13.4-2.mdv2007.1.i386.rpm

by the way I made some changes into spanish translation:
http://www.latuberia.net/rpms/es.tar.gz

Bye and thanks :)

 Alignment of HD inf

Hi, this looks really great, but one thing really bothers me when looking at the info screen.

The large Hard Drive icon and the small icons for each hd device makes the text in the storage device section seem much more indented than the text in all the other sections.

I would suggest completely removing the large HD icon and placing the small device icons more to the left (and thus having the text line up with all the other text), as this would give a more uniform look.

Do you like or dislike Ubuntu Unity?
 Yes, unity is alien technology!
It is less confusing than Gnome 3 default, shell.
Granny thinks it is much more usable than Gnome 2
Canonical is embarrasing itself with this split project
Gnome 3 default shell is much better
I dislike Unity, Gnome 3 default shell is alien technology!
None of the above, I like the 2Gb for free and Apple alike behavior. Will post a comment instead
