Description:

Fotowall is a fun tool for creating graphics by mixing some of your favorite pictures in a nice and smooth high resolution composition.

Check out the new homepage on:
http://www.enricoros.com/opensource/fotowall/

The interface is intuitive:
- just push the 'help' or 'tutorial' buttons to get started

To build from source (make sure that Qt 4.5+ development packages are installed):
- download
- unpack (tar xjpvf Fotowall-0.9.tar.bz2)
- cd fotowall-0.9
- qmake-qt4 or qmake (this depends on your linux distribution. we depend on Qt 4.5+)
- make
- make install (or "cp fotowall /usr/local/bin")
and to execute, just type "fotowall".

PosteRazor is IN!. Thanks to Alessandro Portale and to the good framework (Qt4, by QtSoftware) we're using, it was possible to merge the 2 stunning Fotowall and PosteRazor opensource projects into 1 useful program!
Good done, opensource ;-)

Many thanks to all the people that contribute to FotoWall, expecially to Tanguy Arnaud and Alessandro Portale.

Maybe the Qt4's qmake is called "qmake-qt4" in your linux distribution.

Try:
make distclean
qmake-qt4
make

If qt4's qmake is not even called "qmake-qt4" type "qmake" and hit the Tab key multiple times to see all the qmake executables.

Very nice little app. I realize this is its first release, but I do have a couple suggestions for future versions (most, if not all, of which you've probably already thought of):
1) It'd be nice if the user could do something like hold Shift or Control while resizing to maintain its aspect ratio.
2) Having to open another program to get pictures into FotoWall is very... :-\
3) I'd like to be able to rotate the pictures on their Z-axis, and maybe even do the cool color-changing stuff to the pictures themselves, not just the background (not sure if this would be beyond the scope of what you're trying to achieve here).
4) While it's already possible to resize an imported picture to fill the background, it'd be a lot less tedious if this could be done automatically.

Sorry if any of this came across as harsh. I just tend to give the most suggestions to apps that I see the most promise in. I look forward to the next release! :-)

Thanks a lot! I never now when the next release will come (I only coded this to test some "ui concepts") but I will definitely add some of the things you suggested! ;-)
Again Nice review, and thanks for improving the quality! ;-)

very nice app!

I also have some suggestions:
- It would be lovely if this supported more fileformats (I guess you could easily use some KDE infrastructure for that - would also improve the file dialog ;-)
- It would be useful if a photo came to the top of the stack if you click it (otherwise there is no way to get them to top, right? I didn't find one)
- would dump the two color things, just one like plasma applets have (use the same icon?)
- I was unable to change the colors of the photos, the middle color changer doesn't work. Also, it'd be good if it was easier to find them (maybe just use buttons?). animations are cool, thoug...

I'm new to Linux and KDE.
Downloaded QT4 and FotoWall.
Qmake had no problems but make issued several errors with ColorPicker.

What am I doing wrong?

I bet it has to do with qmake. For me, I could only compile this within my KDE 4 development environment, and not from within my normal userinstall. Pretty weird, considering the output of qmake -v from both:
09:32 AM kde4:~/>qmake -v
QMake version 2.01a
Using Qt version 4.3.2 in /home/kde4/qt4/lib

12:16 PM superstoned:~/>qmake -v
QMake version 2.01a
Using Qt version 4.3.2 in /usr/lib

In other words, both use the same Qt version and are the same qmake version - yet I get the error you describe when I compile this in my normal account, while it works fine in my kde4 account. Yep, weird...

What a great little utility. I saw it and had to give it a try. I must say I am impressed, and my wife absolutely loves it.

How do you like Plasma 5?
 The best KDE Desktop ever.
 Definitely a nice improvement.
Not decided yet. Haven't tried it yet.
I do not like some of the changes.
KDE is taking the wrong way.
I am still sticking with KDE 3.5.
I have no opinion, but wanted to vote anyway.
