 libkcm_gk4.so

I'm really not sure why this isn't working for me. In System Settings, Under "GTK Style" I see:
QLibrary::load_sys:Cannot load /usr/lib/kde4/lib/kde4/kcm_gk4.so (/usr/lib/kde4/lib/kde4/libkcm_gk4.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory)

user@localhost:~$ ls -la /usr/lib/kde4/lib/kde4/kcm_gk4.so
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 842631 2008-04-17 10:06 /usr/lib/kde4/lib/kde4/kcm_gk4.so

user@localhost:~$ ls -la /usr/lib/kde4/lib/kde4/libkcm_gk4.so
ls: /usr/lib/kde4/lib/kde4/libkcm_gk4.so: No such file or directory

What gives?

kubuntu 7.10 amd64.

GTK is a pain in the a$$.

Did you write -DCMAKE-INSTALL-PREFIX correct? Try to do it again< and don't forget about prefix ;)

Well, I installed the binary - So I really don't have the option to specify -DCMAKE_INSTALL_PREFIX afaik. Any ideas on how to fix this without compiling?

I try to build from source:

host: ~/gtk-kde4-src> cmake -DCMAKE_INSTALL_PREFIX=/usr/lib/kde4
-- Check for working C compiler: /usr/bin/gcc
-- Check for working C compiler: /usr/bin/gcc -- works
-- Check size of void*
-- Check size of void* - done
-- Check for working CXX compiler: /usr/bin/c++
-- Check for working CXX compiler: /usr/bin/c++ -- works
CMake Error: ERROR: cmake/modules/FindKDE4Internal.cmake not found in /home/user/.kde4/share/apps;/usr/lib/kde4/share/kde4/apps
-- Configuring done

You must install kde4 development package.
And then recompile

In his case, if he is trying to compile while not in a KDE4 session, he must do a PATH export.

In (K/X)ubuntu it is done like this:

export PATH=/usr/lib/kde4/bin/:$PATH

On other distros simply change '/usr/lib/kde4/bin/' to the distro's KDE4 bin path.

This export should be done before cmake.

Well, kde4-devel is going to install 114 packages. It seems sort of silly to install that many packages just to accomplish this. If I can't use this applet, what files can I edit to change the GTK theme permanently?

I've been editing
/home/user/.kde4/share/config/gtkrc
and
/home/user/.kde4/share/config/gtkrc-2.0
manually with the following:
include "/usr/share/themes/Raleigh/gtk-2.0/gtkrc"
include "/home/user/.themes/Raleigh/gtk-2.0/gtkrc"
style "user-font"
{
font_name="Sans Serif 10 "
}
widget_class "*" style "user-font"
gtk-theme-name="Qt"
gtk-font-name="Sans Serif 10 "

But these files get overwritten each time kde restarts ...

Thanks for the help!

You must do theese file readonly, as my app do, and change it to writeonly every time, when you want to change something

Ah, that's much better as compared to your initial implementation, where you created an autostart script...

I should look at your code sometime again later, perhaps...

You mustn't choose this theme. Select "Use current KDE style" instead of qt4 theme. You copied this because this is using like a folder structure for generating copy of your KDE style.

 can't 'install'

by theschwa on: May 3 2008

Score 50%

Hi, I'm trying to compile this from the source, and I get an odd error when I try to 'sudo make install'. It tells me

No rule to make target 'install'. Stop.

I didn't get any errors during the make or cmake, I set the install prefix, and I have all the required dev packages.
Any help would be appreciated.

You must do cmake and sudo make install from top folder of app, not from src subfolder. Did you do it right?

Thanks for the fast reply. I feel rather stupid, but that fixed it.

But now, I have a problem with Using the current KDE style. When I hit apply, a menu appears and then quickly closes, and none of the gtk apps get changed. Other themes work fine. Suggestions?

 still doesn't work

 by bugmenot1234 on: May 9 2008

Score 50%

i'm using kubuntu intrepid ibex (8.10) x86 KDE4. (KDE 4.0.3).
i successfully compiled and installed gtk-kde4 0.6.1 and the qt4 theme and chose "Use current KDE style" and clicked 'Apply', and the window quickly popped up to apply the style/take focus and then closed. (which is normal like you said). but my gtk apps (like firefox3) still don't use the theme. i also set the icons to 'default.kde' but that gets reset to 'contrastlarge' every time open the module in systemsettings.

could this be a permissions issue?

Icons don't reseting. In 0.6.1 state isn't saved, but icons must apply. But i can't say nothing about style. Could you send me /home/<user>/.kde4/share/config/gtkrc-2.0 ? I'll try to analyze and fix the problem

Maybe it could be part of 4.1 if you're fast or even in 4.2

How do you like Plasma 5?
 The best KDE Desktop ever.
 Definitely a nice improvement.
Not decided yet. Haven't tried it yet.
I do not like some of the changes.
KDE is taking the wrong way.
I am still sticking with KDE 3.5.
I have no opinion, but wanted to vote anyway.
