Description:

KGRUBEditor is no longer under active development.

----------------------------------------------------

DESCRIPTION
KGRUBEditor is a KDE utility, that edits GRUB's configuration files through an inituitive user interface. It combines both ease of use with flexibility and is the perfect solution for those who want to configure GRUB, without messing with its files.

VERSION 0.8.5
This version is bugfix-only, meaning it contains no new features, only improvements over the previous version major version (0.8.1).

It should be ultra-stable so please report any bugs you come across.

HOW TO INSTALL
For installation instructions check the INSTALL file inside the source tarball.

SVN
The source code is fully documented so you may freely take a look at it and post comments/fixes. You may check the latest SVN version using this SVN repository:
https://kgrubeditor.svn.sourceforge.net/svnroot/kgrubeditor

In order to stay up-to-date with the SVN repository at any time follow these instructions:

mkdir -p ~/Development/svn/kgrubeditor && mkdir -p ~/Development/Builds/kgrubeditor
cd ~/Development/svn/kgrubeditor
svn co https://kgrubeditor.svn.sourceforge.net/svnroot/kgrubeditor kgrubeditor/
cd ../../Builds/kgrubeditor
cmake ../../svn/kgrubeditor/trunk/ -DCMAKE_INSTALL_PREFIX=/usr && make && sudo make install

From now on in order to update your local copy do the following:

cd ~/Development/svn/kgrubeditor
svn up
cd ../../Builds/kgrubeditor
make && sudo make install

Some packages are of course required. For [K]ubuntu the following command will install the minimum required to compile KGRUBEditor:

sudo apt-get install subversion kdelibs5-dev build-essential

------------------------------------

Note: All screenshots are up-to-date.

I am awfully sorry but unfortunately this entails lots and lots of work. It took me almost 4 months to port it from Qt4 to KDE4 in my tight schedule. Soon or later KDE4 will become mainstream.

Why do you want a KDE3 port? Simply install the KDE4 libs and you are done. Especially now that the first packages will be available, all you'll have to do is simply enter your root password.

 Support of grub2?

 by jackiebrown on: Feb 18 2008

Do we need to wait until QGRUBEditor supports grub2 or are these now seperate apps?

Grub2 is being used more. (Not more that leagcy grub of course.) In fact Debian - who is not know for being ahead of the times - netinstall even prompts if you want to use it instead of legacy grub.)

Either way, nice port

I just read on the QGRUBEditor page that it has been discontunied in favor of this app.

Sam equestion of abour grub 2 support, but that answers my wuestion about having to wait for QGRUBEditor to include it.

GRUB2 support will be added some time but not in the immediate future. Firstly there are some other things I would like to improve in KGRUBEditor. And yes as you said, QGRUBEditor will no longer be developed.

Looks like a very clean, powerful and useful frontend to Grub.

I'm glad you noted GRUB2. Debian Lenny may or may not make GRUB2 the default but the transition path in Debian Sid and Lenny are a simple command.

I don't know if the Debian engineers work with you or other developers on such a critical low-level piece of code to work within your Application but it's refreshing to see such a solution and in KDE 4 as well.

 CMake and eBuild

@carlill0s: it seems that you have problems with the installation of the .desktop files that should appear in the menu. I can't think of something right now other than that your CMake version is old.

If this is the case update CMake to the latest stable version.

What you can do is open the file CMakeLists.txt (as indicated by the error) and remove the lines 69 and 70. You may then manually copy the files ./other/kgrubeditor.desktop and ./other/kgrubeditor-kde.desktop to /usr/share/applications/kde4/

@jirityr: Thanks a lot for the package. I already added it. More packages will be available soon.

It would be cool to have it as a component for KControl/System Settings

Looks great anyway, I will give it a try :)

Yep, indeed I will create a SystemSettings module.

If I'm not mistaken it will be also included in the next Kubuntu version, Interpid Ibex.

Probably I will have it ready in the next release or even earlier.

Do you like or dislike Ubuntu Unity?
 Yes, unity is alien technology!
 It is less confusing than Gnome 3 default, shell.
 Granny thinks it is much more usable than Gnome 2
 Canonical is embarrasing itself with this split project
 Gnome 3 default shell is much better
 I dislike Unity, Gnome 3 default shell is alien technology!
 None of the above, I like the 2Gb for free and Apple alike behavior. Will post a comment instead
