Description:

This is ManDVD again, still in QT3. Its a DVD authoring tool that was originally written by KDE-apps member Gibault Stéphane. I've used it for myself for some time, but the development seemed to have stopped. Anyway I decided to try to fix some of the things that I wasn't pleased with. So I'm sharing it here if someone wants to try it out. I decided to call it version 2.5 since all I could find was old 2.4 versions to download. If I do something wrong by this please forgive my ignorance. I usually don't write that much software.

LATEST VERSION INFO (2.6-1): Most work on fixing bugs and some experimental work on higher resolution, breaking the DVD standard doing so. (Please test that on your own risk) VLC seems to play it OK, but else not much is known. Time has been limited to do proper test cases of different combinations of media in general.

There is also now a standard intro video available and logo and splash as been redesigned. Thanks Simon and Mathias from SMIT2. (Details are in the changelog)

* Old saved projects can not be used from ver2.5 series.
* Version 2.6 is more adjusted for 16:9 in general
* Please help with bug reporting and packing for other distos.

Any feedback are much welcome. Good or bad as long as its constructive.

TRANSLATION: Can now be done with QT-Linguist.

Done QT-Ling : Swedish, English
Done old style: Portuguese, German (Update needed)

PREVIOUS VERSION INFO (2.5-5): This is the first version I might call a "stable release". I've have put most work in finding bugs and some improvements.

Changelog:

* Thu May 25 2010 Mikael Böhm 2.6-1%{?dist}
- Translation now work with QT-Linguist
- Mask edit in menu adjusted to 16:9 and now works
- New logo and splash by Mathias Sandin
- Standard intro video by Simon Granath
- Program will not start if already running
- Added HQ settings as option for encoding DVD
- Reducing maximum number of videos/buttons to 18 because of DVD menu limitations.
- Experimental (Alpha): None standard resolution 720p possible
- Various small buggfixes

* Thu May 1 2010 Mikael Böhm 2.6-0%{?dist}
- More input video formats supported
- No burn in subtitles possible but a bit dirty
- Various bug fixes
- Changes in layout
- Better estimated total size of encoding
- Home folder in user home .mandvd for saving projects
- Start of translation with QT-Linguist (Fail so far)

* Thu Mar 9 2009 Mikael Böhm 2.5-5%{?dist}
- Fixed lame command to work again with lame 3.98
* Thu Jul 7 2008 Mikael Böhm 2.5-4%{?dist}
- Fixed various bugs for computation of estimated DVD-size outcome
- Loading project recalculate estimated DVD-size
- Adjustments to calculation of final project size, hope its more accurate now
- Calculation only performed on files that shall be reencoded and more specific
depending on input quality.
- Removed SVCD and VCD standards and replaced it with only CDV option which
is the half-size DVD standard. Make reasonable quality with less space
- Fix bug so now its possible to remove intro video if its the last to remove
- Fix audio encoding to handle obscure bit rates when going to AC3
- Saved project files now handle Introduction Video better
- Saved project files does not have the same name that made things bad if
different projects where stored in the same folder
- Various language updates in English and Portuguese
- New translation to German by Kai Regenstein

For debian:
1) apt-get install qt3-dev-tools
2) edit Makefile

In 18:
INCPATH = -I/usr/share/qt3/mkspecs/default -I. -I. -I$(QTDIR)/include/qt3

In 24-25:
MOC = $(QTDIR)/bin/moc-qt3
UIC = $(QTDIR)/bin/uic-qt3

Replace:
Makefile: mandvd.pro /usr/lib64/qt-3.3/mkspecs/default/qmake.conf /usr/lib64/qt-3.3/lib/libqt-mt.prl
On:
Makefile: mandvd.pro /usr/share/qt3/mkspecs/linux-cxx/qmake.conf /usr/share/qt3/lib/libqt-mt.prl

PS: configure is best tool

qmake
make

fixed the problem for me (which seems a reasonable replacement for configure)

It would be nice if you could remove the restriction to only 20 videos.

Hello, I know this is a very late respons but I haven't had any time to do some hacking with mandvd. I tried to increase up to 35 videos. The way Mandvd handles titles sets a limit there it seams. Consider this a BETA testing.

 Mandvd can't find files....

named with portuguese accents (í,á,ó...). This happens at the encode time. The console gives a message like: "file /home/william/vídeo.avi not found". Only works when the file is renamed without accents. I'm using Debian 5.0 and Mandvd 2.5-5.
Cheers.

 Odds things in v2.6-1 beta

 by tester002 on: Feb 9 2011

Hi, I'm new to using ManDVD. Seems very simple to use...I'm using v2.6-1 beta. Thanks for keeping ManDVD alive :-)

Noticed some odd things though, trying to create DVD menus, using Ubuntu 10.x, kernel 2.6.35-25 generic.

I'm able to get pass the first screen of setting up NTSC/destination folder ... etc. I get to the screen of adding video to the project. I can add titles okay, title 1-4 shows a nice graphic;that it's added but title 5-6 shows a blank (black screen) after it's added. Otherwise, works fine.

When I click on add video, the dialog box comes up for choosing the file, I drag/re-size the title column to see the long filenames. And the title column resets to only 7 chars wide when pressing the scroll down button. I drag/resize again and the title column again resets to 7 chars. And on the 3rd time the width of the title column sticks properly.

If I add a video and choose the button, add an image from video, the video plays, and when I click on the camera for a screenshot, mandvd quits. I can get around this by using VLC and taking a snapshot that way.

One other thing that's odd, I set up the video title when adding videos, and click on next, setup a (mostly black) bkgnd picture, next and add video to the bkgnd picture. I'm not able to see any video title, even though the text is set to white (default) on the previous screen. And the highlight (red and green (default) doesn't seem to highlight. As if the selection is invisible.

Burning video is okay, can play okay on normal DVD player, but selection is invisible.

I'd be nice to be able to save your work during each stage of the creation or at the end of the project :-)))

Keep up the good work, looking forward to the next release.

 Suggestion?

 by tester002 on: Feb 9 2011

Could I suggest adding a button to the main startup screen to delete the lock file or to the error dialog box? If ManDVD exits out or crashes?

(For those that don't know where to look for the .ManDVD directory to delete the .run file)

:-)

How do you like Plasma 5?
 The best KDE Desktop ever.
 Definitely a nice improvement.
 Not decided yet. Haven't tried it yet.
 I do not like some of the changes.
 KDE is taking the wrong way.
 I am still sticking with KDE 3.5.
 I have no opinion, but wanted to vote anyway.
