Description:

============WARNING!============
It's only idea-don't ask me how to get kdm look like this from screenshots. For today it's impossible to make kdm look like this.
You want this kdm look? Vote for it on:

================================
Hi guys! I decided too show to all world "the way that KDM should look". I think that KDM is today the worst login manager from all Desktop Environments. Look at GDM-beautiful!!, Windows login manager-very nice. And KDM? Sorry, but so great desktop environment as KDE should have better login manager. So KDE developers-please write better login manager. I'm not a programmist yet, but I can help with design and in projecting config file if someone will decide to do it.
Ps.1.There's nothing to download-only screenshots
Ps.2. Sorry for my bad english

well, should look like this or not, the obvious solution would be scriptable, themeable, customizeable...
I think this ss looks kinda nice, but there's always someone who keeps making better and better ideas, maybe someone makes a login manager theme with noia icons so I, who stopped using crystal when they became off. part of KDE (grew tired :), can also have a unified desktop.
Win XP has, although via extension apps like ...erm...don't remeber the name anymore... so the login manager can be customized, but not all that much really, I'm sure the KDE community could do better, and without the extra extension app to boot :D

2c into the river anyways...

heh. that "extension app" just hacks the login manager's EXE to change images. hardly a solution for theming :)

 Themable KDM

Such a feature is on the Todo list for KDE 3.3 (see http://developer.kde.org/development-versions/kde-3.3-features.html ). However, it might be a very good thing to class this as more of a 'bug-fix' as it's clearly needed to catch up with the rest of the world, so that it might be included in a later update of KDE 3.2, or possibly even the release in February.

In addition to that, it will be themeable (and compatible with GDM themes). I am not working on the project personally (I think there is only one dev doing work for it now) it looks like its coming along. Just needs svg support (via ksvg).

It shouldn't be too hard to realise anymore because Qt 3.3 now supports trancparency. Ok, it already did before, but now you can make it, for example, visible only for 70% with QWidget::setOpacity()!
So I'm shure that the new KDM of KDE3.3 will support transparency. I'm already looking forward to all the nice themes that will come... :D

I think this is a nice idea, but rather than this being the new replacement for KDM, it should be either an add-on or an alternative login manager. Call me crazy, but I personally like the current login screen. So if this is going to become part of the actual KDM package, users should have the option of using "classic" mode. (like GDM and Ksplash have)

Well, the whole idea with making it themable is, that if you wish to use the current, then it should of course be possible to create a theme similar to that ;)

 KDE Login Manager

You can customize or use any theme, colour, icons, background picture for the KDE login manager you want.

In XP you need a third party app to do this so why do you think KDE login manager need changing?, because it's a damn site better than the XP one.

I think that your idea is very good and also your work, even if i think also that it's a little bit too W !
But you're right the look of kdm is so poor and not really convenient for children or wife who don't care about linux or W! just to have a pleasant tool!

In fact the W XP login manager ergonomy seem to be very very good for non "computer" people

That's why I believe that your idea it's a good one to make Linux more popular at the right place !

thanks

how could we get this, how could improve it ?

Do you like or dislike Ubuntu Unity?
 Yes, unity is alien technology!
 It is less confusing than Gnome 3 default, shell.
 Granny thinks it is much more usable than Gnome 2
 Canonical is embarrasing itself with this split project
 Gnome 3 default shell is much better
 I dislike Unity, Gnome 3 default shell is alien technology!
 None of the above, I like the 2Gb for free and Apple alike behavior. Will post a comment instead
