 Dock size messed up.

 by mth411 on: Oct 21 2008

After adding the run command to the dock, the icons in the dock all resize to a larger size, causing them to roll-over to the top of the desktop window. I can resize the dock to be large enough to shift them back up, but then the dock and icons are pretty large, and the run command stays pretty small (about half the height of the doc, looking out of place). After removing the run command, all icons resize back to normal.

Yes, I have similar problem, but it probably happens only in small panel. I'll try to fix it during this weekend.

Currently I don't know what causes that error but until there will be fix for it (maybe someone could help? ;-)) you can try using this workaround:
replace line 217 (something like: if (KRun::runCommand(run, NULL))) in .cpp file by this code (borrowed form older plasmoid):

system("kwrapper4 " + run.toLatin1() + "&");
if (1)

Version .4 workaround

line 343:
//new KRun(path, 0);

line 383:
status = system("kwrapper4 " + run.toLatin1() + "&");

This compiled with 0 errors. It launches items correctly.

Thanks for this great plasmoid!

Try to link with KDE4_KIO_LIBS. This patch should solve it http://rezza.hofyland.cz/fedora/packages/kde-plasma-runcommand/runcommand-0.6-trunk.patch

Emdek: Please merge this patch to support building against trunk.

PS: package for Fedora 9 available in testing!

Thanks R.

Thanks for the patch :-).
Currently I don't have (and probably I won't have it before official release) KDE 4.2 installation so unfortunately I can't test how it works with that version...

Could you import sources to some versioning system somewhere? Then for example in SVN trunk can be developed against KDE trunk and one branch against 4.1. Or other versioning system like hg (mercurial) - www.bitbucket.org, www.github.org, www.fedorahosted.org etc. There are some incompatibilities between Plasma in 4.1 and 4.2 and in Fedora we are going to push 4.2 as update, so we need 4.2 compatible Plasma applets after release... And it is problem with applets here in kde-look.org, so we can't package it (without patching by our hands).

Thanks
R.

I'll try to do that during next weekend.
If I'll have some free time and I'll find usable LiveCD with KDE 4.2 (beta at least) then I'll test applet with it.

 activation?

 by janet on: Oct 26 2008

Is is possible to activate it with a key combination (like Alt-F2 for krunner)? It's more convenient IMHO to press a key combination and instantly go on typing the command as to first click somewhere and then start typing.

Want Debian Sid with spices? Get sidux at sidux.com - it simply works :)

Currently no, but this is interesting idea (which shortcut you suggest?).
I'll try to add this feature later, when I'll learn how to do it ;-).

But what if there is more than one applet?

Hi, what are the advantages of using this plasmoid instead of krunner?

Nearly the same as old "Run Command" kicker applet has over KDE3 run command dialog ;-).
However now Krunner is much more robust than old solution, but still not everybody likes to use shortcut etc.
By the way, I'm thinking about optional integration of runners if I'll have enough time and skills. So maybe it will become "KRunner on the desktop".

How do you like Plasma 5?
 The best KDE Desktop ever.
 Definitely a nice improvement.
 Not decided yet. Haven't tried it yet.
 I do not like some of the changes.
 KDE is taking the wrong way.
 I am still sticking with KDE 3.5.
 I have no opinion, but wanted to vote anyway.
