won't show up in 'add widgets'

hi, i recently upgraded from kde 3.5 to 4.2 and have been missing my 'run command' panel applet severely for the last couple of days. anyway, i was really pleased to find this plasmoid, but unfortunately i can't seem to get the cashew to recognize that it's installed. anyway i've followed the INSTALL routine multiple times now, including the part about restarting plasma, but for some reason, i can't get it to show up in the 'add widgets' dialogue, and i've also had no luck finding anything useable with the 'install from file' option. is this a common problem? i'm running opensuse 11.1, the installation procedure doesn't indicate any errors, and i end up with a 'plasma_applet_runcommand.so' & a 'plasma_applet_runcommand.desktop'. where have i gone wrong? thanks in advance!

You can try to run kbuildsycoca4 (or kbuildsycoca, may depend on distribution) command, maybe it will help.

It's one of the most useful plasmoids out for KDE 4.2, I'm looking forward to the next stable release! :D

It's already updated for KDE 4.2, I'm using it on my desktop with this version (but RC).
Do you get compilation errors or something?

Anyway, I'm planning rewrite of UI to workaround Qt and Plasma bugs / limitations when in panel (I'll detect that and use Plasma themed line edit instead of combo box because don't work good on QGraphicsView, thats confirmed Qt bug / limitation).

Yes, now it works. Tanks for your fast response. :) What is about the translations, they are gone?

Yes, translations are not needed after last changes (no custom strings).

@ emdek

i like your suggestion to center the plasmoid in a larger panel (like mine). i would appreciate it if you could implement this some time in the future.

I hope that this future will come soon. ;-)

Anyway, it's possible that "final" (with planned from beginnings runners support) version could be similar to this mockup (but without buttons and with smaller icons probably):
http://madsheytan.blogspot.com/2009/05/krunner-makieta.html
Maybe it will have option to do not show icon but just embed combo like now.

But probably first step will be to make combo box styled with Plasma theme, it was impossible for editable combo boxes before 4.3 and it's still hard for specialized widgets - applet uses KHistoryComboBox instead of typical KComboBox.

 feature request

could you please implement the ability to resize (like with a grip) and/or specify a static size for the width of the plasmoid? (i.e. 100 pixels wide).

This is possible (and was present in previous versions) but applets really shouldn't implement such as features, this should be done in panels itself (and maybe will be, some day...).
Now it should be possible to restrict it size by inserting spacers with static size. This should work but is not perfect solution.
Only thing I could do is to add hidden option (accessible from configuration file) but only if this is necessity.

actually they should have this option in case they are not used in the panel. i don't use this in the panel because it doesn't & never has scaled correctly.

On desktop you need to hold Ctrl to resize it horizontally (Plasma can't resize applets with fixed dimension without it).
In panels applet tries to get as much space as can.

ohhhhhhhh, thanks for the tip. it appeared to me that resizing the plasmoid when on the desktop was not possible.

Run Command has now initial runners support (at least on my local disc). :-)

It will be most probably released before 10 of August.

How do you like Plasma 5?
 The best KDE Desktop ever.
 Definitely a nice improvement.
Not decided yet. Haven't tried it yet.
I do not like some of the changes.
KDE is taking the wrong way.
I am still sticking with KDE 3.5.
I have no opinion, but wanted to vote anyway.
