Description:

This plasmoid is a controller and a visualizer of informations about the songs for amarok 2.0.
It is quite, let's say, advanced compared with the "Now Playing" plasmoid. I have Kirocker as a model, so it works well even on a thin panel.
Currently it shows basilar info about the song, the cover image, the rating and other minor things, but I plan to add some other Things in the future.
Anyway if you have some feature request, please tell me!

Hope you enjoy it!

 some ideas

hey thanx for sharing your plasmoid:)
i could use it but it lacks for me some very important options. Basically I would like to use it on panel. So here are my ideas:
1. allow user to change number of rows where the information are displayed (now it looks like it depends on size of used font).
2. allow user to choose which information to display and what spaces between them (artist[space]song[space]album)
3. maybe (when on panel) the information (artist, album, song, time) could be just in one string for nice auto-scrolling
4. another option - control buttons always visible when docking in panel (on the left or right)?
5. switch track with mouse wheel is good enough:)
6. progress bar on/off would be nice
7. Generally - more, more options:)

well, i use it in a panel, i developed specifically because the nowplaying plasmoid doesn't show anything in a panel. i think it is quite usable, even if it is not the state of art.
anyway:
1. currently it chooses the number of rows depending on the panel height. it uses the available space in an intelligent way. it wouldn't make sense to make it possible to use 4 rows in a panel 10 pixels thin. it will rearrange the items in a single row.
2. this could be done quite easily
3. the problem of scrolling is that it is quite heavy for the cpu. if you monitor the plasma process you'll see that if amarok is playing a song with big tags the cpu usage will be quite high. and i set 200 ms as update time, and in fact it isn't so smooth. apart from that, maybe i'll add it, but not so soon.
4.do you mean little buttons that co-exists with te infos?
5. ok :-)
6. well, when in a panel it is very thin, but it could be done.
7. i'll see what i can do, but i'd prefer to maintai the code quite simple avoiding an unuseful blob of options.

 Some sugestions

First of all, nice work =)

May I sugest some Last.FM support? I'm saying this because I don't think it would be very hard. Basically, detecting if the Last.FM service is being used and replacing the buttons with the LastFM ones (skip, love, ban and of course, stop)

It would be a great addition of value to your work =)

Keep in mind that this is just a user's idea, not a demand.

Cheers

 other suggestion

Just another suggestion,
When I stop a song, the "pause" button is still displayed instead of "play".
And at the end of the playlist, the progression displayed is 99%, it should be null I think.

And again congrats for this plasmoid wich is my favorite with quickaccess

 Plasma freezing

by kriko on: Mar 7 2009

When you launch amarok from your applet, plasma will freeze until amarok is fully loaded / exited.

Is this plasma issue? I hope it doesn't suffer same simptoms as kicker did.

Is it possible, to remove, or just make an option that will remove the stop button? Lots of people don't need it :D Like me, and... others :D

If you meant a development way, I can't tell you cause I'm not a dev. If not, so... moving elements can be done with a pressed button right on the plasmoid. The user could choose the button in config dialog. Adding/removing elements can be done in a config dialog, too. Another idea of it is a box with all possible elements, and a box to drop the elements there. In the drop box user could easy move elements.

If i can ask, why isn't it possible to remove the stop button?

i meant both from a developer and a user point of view.
thank you for your suggestions.

for the stop button, it isn't possible because i didn't add the option in the dialog, but you could remove it by modifing the code and recompiling it.

If you can, make a checkbox to turn of the stop button. I'm waiting for the new one with moveable elements. ;]

Do you like or dislike Ubuntu Unity?
 Yes, unity is alien technology!
It is less confusing than Gnome 3 default, shell.
Granny thinks it is much more usable than Gnome 2
Canonical is embarrasing itself with this split project
Gnome 3 default shell is much better
I dislike Unity, Gnome 3 default shell is alien technology!
None of the above, I like the 2Gb for free and Apple alike behavior. Will post a comment instead
