 kio process from rekonq

 by walecha99 on: Nov 14 2009

Score 50%

from kde system monitor, i saw that the kio process from rekonq was not being terminated when i stop the browser (from close button or killed from system monitor). is this more to the behavior of kde kio process or rekonq it self doesn't kill its child process (CMIIW)?

thanks for the answer.

Uhm.. can you be a little more precise? If you stop/kill rekonq (a kde app, in general) after have started a download or a internet connection, it's quite normal download continues to be performed or internet connection continues until it expires.
Hope this responses your question.

this is what i mean. i've captured some screenshot from system monitor:

1. kio_file process when rekonq still running
http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/7nYd1JTJSCQ99AlKoOHkQA?feat=directlink

2. and this is kio_file process after i close rekonq (terminate/kill)
http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/1EHuHaS5wWWa-fnbQEblug?feat=directlink

you can see, there is one kio_file process that didn't stopped, when i close rekonq and it still running until i kill it. i didn't running any download or any other background process using rekonq.

Seems like reconq could soon become a good alternative to existing browsers. Unfortunately for Kubuntu there is only 0.2.0 in the repositories? Are there any alternative repositories out there?

I have just seen your roadmap and have some questions and suggestions:
- Will the adblock implementation of reconq have an autoupdate-function? That is something really missing with konqueror.
- Is there the possibility to implement a better cookie-handling? -> https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=145278
- Could you have a look at the Fullerscreen addon for Firefox, http://disruptive-innovations.com/products/index.html ? The functionallity would be really cool to have it in a KDE browser.

adblock will have it, yes. And cookie handling seems ok also in 0.3. About the fullscreen idea.. don't know if we'll have time for. At least for 0.4

hello,
Thanks for providing a great alternative to Konqueror's web browsing capabilities!

I'm getting an error just like this on Debian testing, trying to compile 0.3
[ 97%] Generating index.cache.bz2
index.docbook:27: warning: failed to load external entity "dtd/kdex.dtd"
]>
^

ending with:index.docbook:204: element book: validity error : No declaration for element book
</book>
^
make[2]: *** [docs/index.cache.bz2] Error 1
make[1]: *** [docs/CMakeFiles/docs-handbook.dir/all] Error 2
make: *** [all] Error 2

but I can find kdex.dtd
[greyash@localhost:rekonq-0.3.0/build]$ locate kdex.dtd (12-10 14:25)
/usr/share/apps/ksgmltools2/customization/obsolete/kdex.dtd
/usr/share/kde4/apps/ksgmltools2/customization/obsolete/kdex.dtd

Any ideas how to get around this? Thanks.

I think the issue might be caused due to a difference in the docbook versions in jaunty and karmic.
If you could tell us what vesion of docbook you have maybe i can help.
And if you dont want the docbook just remove the docs folder and the CMakeLists.txt line, that should sort out any problems with the docbook.
Also since rekonq 0.4 now depends on KDE 4.4 i would advise that you move on to karmic.

 URL preview in the adressbar?

It would be cool if we could hover over a link and see the URL preview inside the adressbar , instead of view the URL at the bottom.

Do you like or dislike Ubuntu Unity?
 Yes, unity is alien technology!
It is less confusing than Gnome 3 default, shell.
Granny thinks it is much more usable than Gnome 2
Canonical is embarrasing itself with this split project
Gnome 3 default shell is much better
I dislike Unity, Gnome 3 default shell is alien technology!
None of the above, I like the 2Gb for free and Apple alike behavior. Will post a comment instead
