You need to open up YaST Online Update (YOU), find and install the appropriate or all of the "Optional"
Multimedia Packages.

If that fails for whatever reason, google "Suse 9.3 mp3 support"

oops, that wasn't quite what I'd intended. Sorry.

The missing parts:

Get an uncrippled xine on this page and follow the instructions on how to install it. You could also use Yast to install the packages as it will take care of necessary dependencies for you (if you do it by hand you'll have to uninstall SuSE's xine-ui and xine-lib before you install the alternative versions)

http://cambuca.ldhs.cetuc.puc-rio.br/xine/

I tried it on 9.3 a few weeks ago and it worked then.
Then set up amarok to use the xine engine (I don't remember whether SuSE put the engines in a different package, you might have to install something like "amarok-xine" or "amarok-engines", search in yast for amarok).

Unfortunatly Kaffeine didn't play DVDs or mp3s after installing this xine version, it seems to be statically compiled. So if you want Kaffeine to work too, you're gonna have to find fixed packages for SuSE 9.3

Hi,
I'm using Amarok for some time now, and I'm very happy with it. It's one of the best for the desktop IMHO.

Keep up the good work!

Stef

 Great app, ...

... but I can't resist to state that the screenshots as presented here make amaroK look worse than it actually is.

They are seemingly done in fullscreen and even on a 1280x1024 screen (which I assume is the resolution of the screenshots) I have to scroll to see everything.

It's just that I assume most people wouldn't ever want a music player that *has* to be used in a fullscreen mode. Normal operation for most music players and what most people expect or like seems to be a rather small window - maybe 1/4 of the whole screen.

The shots make amaroK look like it's not usable in such a way. Which I think isn't good at all.

Cheers :o)

When it comes to screen realestate, amaroK has what is quite possibly the smallest footprint of all players out there. A fully working interface to most of the application's core functionality in 22 by 22 pixels. Yes, this is of course the systray icon. Scroll wheel and such is truly your friend here, it's usable for switching tracks ([ctrl][wheel]), scrolling through a track ([shift][wheel]), volume change ([wheel]), viewing track information (hover), show/hide application ([mouse1]), actions menu ([mouse2]).

So... yeah :) These screenshots were made to show off all the functionality, but this particular part of it does not do well for showing this particular stroke of genious (i can't even remember who came up with this functionality... but a brilliant idea it certainly was ;) )

 Covers

* The tyranny of deleting covers every 90 days is over. Instead, amaroK now automatically downloads the covers every 80 days to comply with Amazon.com requirements.

Thank good. This was so annoying, that I stopped using this feature. Hello Covers again!

There's a script called copycover. It copies covers from cache to the directory with the songs.

I am running Mandriva 2005 LE and cant get Amarok 1.3: - compile from source completes successfully but no command exists named amarok - URPMI from custom URL (http://www.gkmweb.com/amarok/2005LE/) fails due to problems with CURL - download/install from custom RPMs fail because of unsatisfied dependencies Help! I am getting music withdrawal jitters owing to prolonged lack of amarok music! :)

Do you like or dislike Ubuntu Unity?
 Yes, unity is alien technology!
It is less confusing than Gnome 3 default, shell.
Granny thinks it is much more usable than Gnome 2
Canonical is embarrasing itself with this split project
Gnome 3 default shell is much better
I dislike Unity, Gnome 3 default shell is alien technology!
None of the above, I like the 2Gb for free and Apple alike behavior. Will post a comment instead
