Composite support now in CVS

By Frank
Published: Jan 15 2005

One hour ago Thomas merged his great translucency/shadow patch into the KDE CVS.
This means we will have transparent windows and shadows in KDE 3.4.

Thank you very much.

Can't wait for the next release!

Btw, don't forget about andrunko's additions to Konqueror that are in CVS!

i thought that the qt people where unwilling to patch qt, as needed by the patches. are you sure about that?

Some of the patches did get in, but I'm not sure which since I'm not running a cvs build of KDE currently.

there's a new item in the kcontrol module of kwin, saying translucency, where you can activate composite support, BUT:
you need XOrg 6.8 (composite, render, damage, fixes) support at compile time, or kompmgr will not be compiled and the config stuff is skipped

kde3.4-beta2 will come out on feb 5th only a week from today and I cant wait to compile it. For some reason compiling from CVS is currently not working for me, too many bugs in the code.

but when something like flash plugin crashes when composite extension is active, I don't think this gonna be adopted by a lot of people

How do you like Plasma 5?
 The best KDE Desktop ever.
 Definitely a nice improvement.
Not decided yet. Haven't tried it yet.
I do not like some of the changes.
KDE is taking the wrong way.
I am still sticking with KDE 3.5.
I have no opinion, but wanted to vote anyway.
