 Konstruct Question

Does anyone know, where I can tell konstruct to pass the option --disable-debug to every configure call, or which options I have to set in OWN_CLFAGS to get the same result?

Hey Yaba,

Just curious what distro you use. I'm running Mandrake 10.0 and I've been thinking about upgrading to KDE 3.3. However, I'm still rather new with Linux (since April), and am nervous about messing up something so crucial to my system. Konstruct looks like a great tool for me to use to upgrade KDE. Is it safe to have Konstruct overwrite KDE 3.2 with 3.3? Any advice you might have would be great, thanks!

I have to use RedHat EL3, but I don't like it.

Usually I compile KDE myself and install it to /opt/kde (e.g. /opt/kde3.3.1) and then create a symlink /opt/kde that points to this directory. Therefore I can install a new KDE version without overwriting the old one while still having an easy way to switch back by changing the symlink.

In this case you have to add the path /opt/kde/bin to your PATH variable in /etc/profile and /opt/kde/lib to /etc/ld.so.conf.

I don't know Mandrake and can't tell you how they do it, however I think that you are on the safe path, if you do it like I do.

Ooh, that's a good idea. For some reason I think Mandrake puts KDE somewhere other than /opt/kde, but that's easy to find out and this same idea will work for wherever it is. Very nice. Thanks a lot!

I've used Mandrake in the past (I left it when they came up with that MandrakeClub thing). I 've got a gut feeling that something is bound to be messed up when you're gonna use Konstruct.
My advise: Wait for updated packages from Mandrake.

The distro I use (Turbolinux) puts KDE under /usr as well, but that should not be a problem. I used konstruct to install KDE 3.3.1 on the system yesterday. I've been able to use it with little trouble so far. Konstruct by default creates the KDE directory under your $HOME, so it should not interfere with your original KDE installation. Just make sure you set the necessary environment variables (i.e. QTDIR, KDEDIR, KDEDIRS and KDEHOME) correctly.

How do you like Plasma 5?
 The best KDE Desktop ever.
 Definitely a nice improvement.
Not decided yet. Haven't tried it yet.
I do not like some of the changes.
KDE is taking the wrong way.
I am still sticking with KDE 3.5.
I have no opinion, but wanted to vote anyway.
