Published: Dec 18 2003

A Christmas gift from Linus and Andrew: The new kernel has been released!!!

The new kernel is marked as stable and can be downloaded from www.kernel.org and its a href="http://www.kernel.org/mirrors">mirrors.

According to this posting by Andrew Morton they will continue to work on the 2.6 branch for fixing upcoming problems before starting with the next 2.7 development branch.

Yeah, rock on, Linux, rock on! I am excited about trying the new kernel but I think this will happen after I wipe out my 2year old rock-solid RedHat 7.3 installation and put a brand-new Gentoo linux in its place.

hahah, cool. I just installed gentoo on a second harddive and i'm working on transfering all my stuff to it from my debian installation. I love gentoo even if I spent about 48 hours compiling stuff. lol. And I'm running the 2.6 kernel with xfree 4.3 and kde 3.2. woo!

I run the new kernel since 2.5.68 - no problems except some compatibility issues (nvidia, synaptics,...)
now that the final version is out, I recompiled my (gentoo)system with 2.6.0 headers and nptl support. so far it runs fine except some packages which do not compile with nptl (licq,xine-lib,lilo,reiserfsprogs)

How do you like Plasma 5?
 The best KDE Desktop ever.
 Definitely a nice improvement.
Not decided yet. Haven't tried it yet.
I do not like some of the changes.
KDE is taking the wrong way.
I am still sticking with KDE 3.5.
I have no opinion, but wanted to vote anyway.
