Linus recommends KDE

Linus recommends KDE

By Yaba
Published: Dec 14 2005
Linus expressed his toughts about KDE and Gnome in a short posting on the Gnome usability mailing list.

I personally just encourage people to switch to KDE.

This "users are idiots, and are confused by functionality" mentality of Gnome is a disease. If you think your users are idiots, only idiots will use it. I don't use Gnome, because in striving to be simple, it has long since reached the point where it simply doesn't do what I need it to do.

Please, just tell people to use KDE.

Linus

Please see the his posting for the complete message in its context.

 Well

If Linus likes KDE is his personal (and well detailed) opinion.

But it depends of each user to choose a desktop manager. Me, particulary, still jumps between AfterStep and KDE, and every one had strong and weak points.

But KDE is a good reason to convince a Windows user to migrate.

Free as in freedom, but i prefer free beer ;)

 FREE SOFT MIRACLE

This is what Free Software has. The power of choice. Let's benefit from it, anyone can CHOOSE... and that's the real miracle.

Personally my choice is KDE, but I HAVE THE POWER OF CHOICE.

Bye !!

 Too much of anything

Too much Choice however, is not a good thing. I use KDE for it just seems better designed to fit my way of thinking. Sadly, maybe Microsft trained me this way.

Im worried the choices of Linux are too vast and that is why Linux hasn't risen to knock MS on its behind. I'm afraid Linux will never be taken seriously (by the public) until there is more focus by the community. Not neccesarily between Gnome and KDE etc., but distro after distro after distro...

 KDE and Gnome

hello,

I think. KDE and Gnome is like friends.

We should not use the word "VS" between the KDE and Gnome.

We can take KDE and Gnome's difference as a freedom of Open Source.

Use what you like.

Some may say that KDE is best and some Gnome.

Truth is both are perfect.

Do you like or dislike Ubuntu Unity?
 Yes, unity is alien technology!
It is less confusing than Gnome 3 default, shell.
Granny thinks it is much more usable than Gnome 2
Canonical is embarrasing itself with this split project
Gnome 3 default shell is much better
I dislike Unity, Gnome 3 default shell is alien technology!
None of the above, I like the 2Gb for free and Apple alike behavior. Will post a comment instead
