beta redesign

beta redesign

By Frank
Published: Oct 22 2008

I thought a lot about a way to redesign the websites to make it easier to understand and use. The plan is to make the website layout as light as possible so that the actual content is in the focus and more visible.

Another goal was to introduce a real navigation where you can see what kind of functionality the websites provides and you see where you are, at the moment.

The current design is not finished yet. This is in beta stage, at the moment. I would like to hear feedback from you.
What do you like? What don´t you like?

Please post you comments here.

Thank you for your help.

Cheers
Frank

-------update-------

I fixed a few small bugs and transformed a few more websites to the new design. What do you think?

I absolutely like the new design!

It somehow seems faster also, maybe it's
in my head but still , seems faster :D

the way the new tabs (artwork,groups...)
works is really user friendly also...
good work!

You should also check the validity of the design. At this page, there is over 200 errors. That's not good at all!

 google reader problem

since a few days I seem to have trouble with the feed when using Google Reader. It doesn't show all messages! I wanted to notify google, but they won't take any action if your feed doesn't get validated. Indeed, the kde-apps.org feed seems to have a few problems:

please have a look

I like the idea. But it seems really empty. It's totally flat. No depth. No texture. No contrast. No color.

I understand that you want to make navigation and such more subtle, but I think that this approach just makes it hard to see.

There's a couple of thins that have always bugged me about this website.

One is the inconsistency with icons. The little emoticon things you can select under the signature box don't match other icons on the website. You'd be surprised at how much a little visual cue like icons can change the look of something.

Also, it is becoming kind of a standard (for god knows what reason) that search boxes are located in the top right of a field. I always go to click on the status message to search for something. I don't know if there's really an HIG rule anywhere that says that, but I think it's kind of understood.

Like I read in another comment, there needs to be some kind of bullets or arrows or icons or something in some of these sidebars. Sometimes it's hard to see where one thing ends and another begins.

One thing I do like, though, is the new tabs up top. It's very very nice.

This is better now, at least the navigation is more intuitive now, I like it :) maybe some improvements for design could make it more attractive... anyway, it seems even faster :) Good job, You have my vote !

Love the new design and I like the fact that it doesn't get in the way. Seems lighter, faster..

Do you like or dislike Ubuntu Unity?
 Yes, unity is alien technology!
It is less confusing than Gnome 3 default, shell.
Granny thinks it is much more usable than Gnome 2
Canonical is embarrasing itself with this split project
Gnome 3 default shell is much better
I dislike Unity, Gnome 3 default shell is alien technology!
None of the above, I like the 2Gb for free and Apple alike behavior. Will post a comment instead
