 1600x1200

I can always scale it down. I also tend to grab pieces of the ones I download to make my own, so I want the largest graphics I can get to work with in GIMP.

I use 2560x1024. You can't beat a dual headed display!

You can't beat a single-head display (of that size) ;-)

sure you can. the one i bought to use as a tv, the apple 30 inch display, does 2560x1600. Its hard to find a graphics card to drive it well, though. i'd have to use an X800. It makes your wallet look sort of thin, but it beats the plasma i was thinking of hands down.

windows on a mac? who the hell would want to do that?

why would anybody with a sense of taste use 1024x768 !? especially in linux... i already find it difficult to work with 1280x1024 .... 1600x1200 is minimum, you see more things and pictures look a lot better.
if my screen supported a higher resolution i'd probably use it ;) , but 1600x1200 is the biggest reolution that has an acceptable refresh rate...

Because 1024x768 suits my purposes. It's not a matter of taste!

Taste is really a subjective thing yes/no ?
I think most linux users push their systems as hard as they can.
My opinion ? max out and let everybody scale to "taste",
that way no one would be tasteless.

hey people, dont take these things personally... i just stated my opinion, and dont take me too seriously ;) .
i just said that i think big resoultions show more things and have higher quality pictures and so on....
of course everybody ought to use whatever suits him best.

Because most Laptops have a display with that resolution?

To mess up a Linux box, you need to work at it; to mess up your Windows box, you just need to work on it.

ACK. Exactly my resolution (and therefore, wallpaper size). I think it's ideal at 17" screens.

How do you like Plasma 5?
 The best KDE Desktop ever.
 Definitely a nice improvement.
Not decided yet. Haven't tried it yet.
I do not like some of the changes.
KDE is taking the wrong way.
I am still sticking with KDE 3.5.
I have no opinion, but wanted to vote anyway.
