Please, don't build a new theme manager. We don't need another.
We have already KTheme and KStyle.
Or make a new one, that replaces both without loosing functionality.

 must get programs!

KDE really needs to have great programs in order for people to move over to it. The existing programs certainly are nice, but many of the programs still aren't as good as their Windows counterparts.

Of course, looks are great too :-)

A nice sentiment, but KDE is a *desktop*, not an application repository. I would rather have them concentrate on improving the desktop rather than creating a bunch of clones.

a desktop is not an end in and of itself: without applications it is useless.

fortunately we have many KDE (and non-kde) GUI applications along with a treasure trove of excellent tools to use at the command line.

however, the original poster is correct in saying that the existing apps do not cover the spectrum of functionality many need or want. this does not mean clones of other apps on other systems should be made, merely that the needed functionality should be present.

as the desktop itself matures (and it largely has with KDE2), the need for apps becomes greater to make it (more) useful for the user.

 What I Want

I really hope the alpha blending is better in KDE 3.0, especially in Konqueror. I know there are speed issues involved, but I think it'd be great and IMO it'd make KDE the most visually advanced desktop for Linux.
I don't think more styles and icons are important because that could always be made by the community. As for more applications, I would like a KDE Jabber client because the only one that's out now (Konverse) keeps dying so I've given up on hoping that becomes good.

 Stability matters

Features and looks are all well and good, but unless every major KDE application is rock solid, it's going to keep on sucking. KOffice is still alpha quality. Konqueror crashes on me at least a few times a day. I've noticed all sorts of simple operations that lag too -- in an "inefficient algorithm" kind of way. I think the main problem is perhaps the core image handling routines in kdelib. KDE is moving in the right direction, but I do wish the developers would spend more time ironing out the annoying but non-show-stopper bugs. But again, crashes are never acceptable.

 usability study

maybe a usability study should be done on themability? I personally voted for a new theme manager, not that this one is bad, but it's far too cluttered! Nice KDE themes may be nice for someone who knows a bit about how kde works but face it! Someone who's new to kde, or new to computers at all, does _not_ know how to change every element of the look&feel in such a way the desktop remains consistent, leave alone adding a NEW theme! (the most pretty themes require compiling some code :( ) those are the facts, at the moment.. So a unified look&feel tool would be very necessary. It's also never been done before, in a big integrated desktop environment (icon/border/widget/panel/colourscheme/etc thingie installed by default? don't think so!) Possibility to customize every aspect is of the same importance bytheway, so we shouldn't lose that..

Also, shouldn't there be a "complete theme" (with every aspect customized) section on this site?

How do you like Plasma 5?
 The best KDE Desktop ever.
 Definitely a nice improvement.
Not decided yet. Haven't tried it yet.
I do not like some of the changes.
KDE is taking the wrong way.
I am still sticking with KDE 3.5.
I have no opinion, but wanted to vote anyway.
