I use Mandriva Linux for normal day to day work and Gentoo when I'm in a hacking/learning mood.

 Don't do such polls.

:)

Don't do such polls, you will miss a distro... everytime...

I vote for Arch, best distro ever, simplicity of slackware, control and flexibility of gentoo (without compiling orgies) and unseen speed.

Ok, I have compiling orgies, but that comes from my maintainer job of KDEmod :)

KDE... because of the technology.

I don't see your point as long as the votes for all 'other' distributions combined are below the top 7 chosen distributions. It's correct that never all distributions can be covered, but that's not a reason to not publish such a poll.

Pure Legend!
I'm a Gentoo user since at least two years.
I have tried Archlinux for two months.

Archlinux has nothing to do with a sort of "binary Gentoo".

Arch is an incredibly fast distro, but you often need to use PKGBUILD and compile. Moreover, I've seen PKGBUILD done in stupid way (copying files instead of doing a "make install" o_O'') and some troubles that could be never tolerate on any other distro (Konqueror doesn't work anymore as web browser... no problem, let's wait the next update of KDE o_O''').

Yes Arch is good (best binary to my mind) but dramatically lacks of serious in it's development.

PS : I'm not angry, I just wrote my thoughts :D

PS 2 : People always think I'm grumbling when I'm not :p

You weren't grumbling. In fact, you put forward a couple of good reasons to think over before going into Arch thing.

Just letting you know that someone can read what you write and not think that it sounds like grumbling :P

Those who do not understand Unix are condemned to reinvent it, poorly.

I'm a huge FreeBSD fan, and it has been my primary desktop since 4.0. But my laptop's ATI X1400 requires a proprietary driver, so I have to use Linux on it (how ironic). I currently have Kubuntu on it, but I am growing disatisfied with it. It has gotten too bloated in my opinion. I had formerly used Slackware, and was considering that, but it still doesn't have a true package management system.

Then I discovered Arch Linux. I tried it out on a spare partition, and it seems to be the best of all worlds. Slackware-like simplicity/efficiency, a package/build system similar to BSD ports, and plenty of documentation at the Arch site. When my current assignment is finished, I'm going to wipe Kubuntu off this laptop and put on Arch Linux.

Do you like or dislike Ubuntu Unity?
 Yes, unity is alien technology!
It is less confusing than Gnome 3 default, shell.
Granny thinks it is much more usable than Gnome 2
Canonical is embarrasing itself with this split project
Gnome 3 default shell is much better
I dislike Unity, Gnome 3 default shell is alien technology!
None of the above, I like the 2Gb for free and Apple alike behavior. Will post a comment instead
