I wouldnt use it for day to day use, but I didnt expect more from 4.0
So, no wining here.

Also it isnt ported to FreeBSD yet, which actually *prevents* me from using it ;)

I'm really happy to see such great development happening -- even if the version numbers are confusing and nonsensical. It's good stuff and I use it day-to-day. It'll only get better :-D!

Keep up the good work guys ^_^ Everyone who uses GUI appreciates nice themes :D

I'm going to switch as soon as they release KDE-PIM. I don't want to have both KDE 3 and 4.

 Needs more work

I hate to say it but I don't consider it ready at all. Let me explain.

Applications(7): Most of them are there. They miss some features compared to their KDE 3 version. They need more polishing and debugging.

Desktop/Plasma(4): This desktop solution is great. Beats all other environments, hands down. But... a lot of engines are missing, same with plasmoids. The latter need more polishing. The possibilities are endless but the current state is very bad.

Speed(4): On my setup (hardware+software) the whole desktop is slow. The composite effects are a no-no even though I have an nVidia 7600 with 256MB that is more than capable for desktop effects (such as KWin and compiz) and games. A lot of work/testing is needed before it is ready for everyday use by the masses (ie all those people that defaults are not good).

Configuration(7): Some configuration options are missing (especially for Plasma, which creates a bad first impression affecting the image of KDE 4 as a whole). Configuration has always been the primary strength of KDE for MANY people and I don't think it's going away. Just give it time...

Overall(6): IMHO KDE 4.0 (even 4.0.1) should be labelled as betas/rc's and wait at list 3-4 months more before releasing KDE 4 for the masses. There is need for polishing and debugging everywhere:(

I am not using anything from KDE 4 yet because the integration with my KDE 3.5 system is bad and because of all the reasons I listed above.

PS. Everything I say is MY OWN OPINION based on MY OWN EXPERIENCE on my Kubuntu Gutsy installation of KDE 4.0. Nothing more - nothing less!

and I'm going to add to this rather objective post: why did you guys create those funny banners stressing "dream" word?

I mean to say *I* know what will KDE 4.x era bring to our lives but those banners tricked many users into thinking that the first release of KDE 4.x would kick ass hard. Which didn't really happen.

As you can see many just can't use KDE 4 for it's (i'm gonna put it just bluntly) simply *buggy*.

Anyway, KDE 4 is awesome and I'm glad that you guys make KDE so cool.

Those who do not understand Unix are condemned to reinvent it, poorly.

 Needs upgrade path.

This might not bother some of you as much as it does me, but I do not really like that KDE4 is a seperate desktop from KDE3.

In my opinion, I would have liked them to just keep gradually upgrading 3.5.X until it got to 4.0.0 and so forth. I mean, they are both still KDE....just different versions.

It would be like using pidgin 2.3.1, and then suddenly they have pidgin 3.0.0 but you can't just upgrade, you have to install a completely new and different pidgin. Would be very annoying.

I do not care how new and different it is from KDE3, they could have still provided an upgrade path from KDE 3 to KDE 4.0.

I have tried to write an application which uses both Qt3 and Qt4. It won't work because the C++ classes of Qt3 (used by KDE3) and Qt4 (used by KDE4) are not compatible. That's a problem of the static data types in C++.
I was wondering how the KDE4 developers would create a transition under this conditions. Well, they didn't ;)

 not bugs

It's not bugs that are the problem.
It's the lack of functions and customization. I'll wait for KDE 4.1

How do you like Plasma 5?
 The best KDE Desktop ever.
 Definitely a nice improvement.
Not decided yet. Haven't tried it yet.
I do not like some of the changes.
KDE is taking the wrong way.
I am still sticking with KDE 3.5.
I have no opinion, but wanted to vote anyway.
