 Multiple keyboard layouts

by sclaes on: Feb 23 2009
Score 50%

I switched back to KDE 3.5 (I downgraded from Kubuntu 8.10 to 8.04) because I use more than 4 keyboard layouts. (I thought it was a limitation of Gnome, but it isn't...)

Any idea why I can't have more than 4 keyboard layouts in KDE 4?

Yes although I never yse Keyboard layouts, I just tested this and even in 4.3 (trunk), I could select no more than 4 layouts!

Have you posted this as a bug yet?

 no kde4

well i have tried

on kubuntu and debian

and i have to say... i am on kde3.5.10

that's because is more usefull.

first konqueror

is really slow..like web browser flash multi problems on serveral website
problem with upload on mediafire.com for example. i thought on kde4.2 it was fixed ... no slow and with a lots of problem... why gnome user has firefox and here we have to wait wait and wait to get a nice web browser open source..

why should i use opera or firefox when i can use konqueror? i like it on kde3.5 . i use opera only when konqueror has problem. But on kde4 konqueror is too slow.

the "bar" or kiker or whatever the main bar of kde is still lacking of features
i don't understand why i have to start desktop effects to enable trasparent bar.. i dislike compiz and all that stuff of kde effects i want a fast pc.

i remember kde 4.0 was very fast and not like 4.2...

Many other feauters are lacking .. amarok crashes..

no it's not ready i mean i think i have to way kde4.4 or kde4.5

 Linux's hope

I think KDE4.* is great. They have sorted out most of it's flaws, and by 4.3 - 4.4/5
I think it will be a really great system.
Was a long time gnome user, but KDE4.* just seemed so much more polished and user friendly, which is good as my friends use my computer. KDE is the only hope for Linux to break into the mainstream.

 KDE 4 == WIP

The community is split up all over the place. KDE4 has caused some KDE3 users to abandon KDE for GNOME and XFCE, but KDE4 has also attracted users from GNOME as well.

But KDE4 is still a work in progress, and too many people are treating it like it is a final release. Eventually, all the features of KDE3 will be in there. Until then, users in productive, enterprise environments should stick to tried and true KDE3.

Yes, the way the KDE team versions the releases is misleading, but we need to live with it.

 great stuff kde 4.X

super cool, i am a happy user>>> i switched 2 weeks ago from gnome to kde, after years of using gnome and xfce. it is a beautiful interface, 4.2 is much better than 4.1. the rest is linux anyway which is the best part here...
as long it is rock solid & stable, and i had some issues in the beginning (nvidia).
but now top-os-experience. thanks, great stuff...
NOW one thing:
Korganizer is beautiful aswell and was very very easy to import all the evolution stuff and it seems to me just better and more beautiful than evolution,
BUT:::why the heck can't i access korganizer from within the plasmoid-calendar thet comes with kde-4.2 ???
there is a button but it does nothing and there is no config option i could find...
DOES SOMEBODY KNOW A WAY? is this a bug?

No, it's not a bug, it is a missing feature. Currently, there is work going on to be able to access Akonadi data from within plasma, so for 4.3 it should be rather easy to do it. That is still no garantee somebody WILL do it, but there is hope :D

 It doesn't matter, really.

I had been a Gnome user, and I prefer KDE over Gnome. I think KDE has more potential, no offense.

I had KDE 4.1, and I like 4.2 much better. I can't say if I like it more than 3.x because I haven't used it.

The best advice I ever heard: \"Just do it!\"

How do you like Plasma 5?
 The best KDE Desktop ever.
 Definitely a nice improvement.
Not decided yet. Haven't tried it yet.
I do not like some of the changes.
KDE is taking the wrong way.
I am still sticking with KDE 3.5.
I have no opinion, but wanted to vote anyway.
