I think they're completely useless. They're mostly like smartphones, except they don't fit in your pocket.

Smartphones and tablets make simple tasks take about 5 times longer than they need to. They are great if you aren't within reach of a PC, but to me everything else about them is a drawback.

Well, a couple of folks in our office have one - but all the time I see them working with these tablet PCs, they use them just like regular notebooks - just more expensive notebooks with a touch screen that is not touched.

I have nightmares with people leaving greasy fingerprints everywhere in one of those glossy laptop screens. So, for me, "touchscreen" is a no go in a laptop :)

On the other hand I liked the ability to rotate the screen and show other people stuff without needing the make acrobatics with the entire laptop.

 Tablet sales

Have you seen the numbers of tablet sales? And the expectations are good.[1]

Personally I do like tables, and think that they are the real personal computer for the first time. It is much easier to use (especially for an average person). The desktop computers and laptops will be replaced in not so much time. I think it is the normal evolution. Tablets are a new (and better) way to interact with computers.

KDE was (and still is) for many years my default DE, but like Windows, it will come to an end soon. Android (and hopefully not, but for sure iOS too) will be every where.

 CAN'T BE REPLACED

Tablets are for browsing the net and reading ebooks, may be playing games. It can't replace laptops and Desktops which are needed for programming , Graphics, Animation, servers, net works and what not. Also iOS or Android can't replace the existing OS in near future as they don't have enough to meet the varied demands of various professions using the current OSes

 Universal remote and ebook reader

I agree with most comments. Tablets are in an hard spot with restricted usefulness if you have something else at hand. I also thing they could really shine has a remote control for your domotics.

If you're watching a movie in the TV why not display the tablet info in the tablet? See what's going on in other channels without zapping in the TV and annoy everyone else watching? Dim the lights, etc.

If I could do that (without setting everything up by myself and never buying another electronics again) I would by a tablet. :)

The tablet as the personal GUI interface to every other device in the house/office/current location.

This is the perfect utopian idea for tablet computers in my opinion as well.

The tablet in it's current form should be only when there is nothing around to be in control of, or by user choice.

And if it would be more like those thin & slick PADDs from DS9 and VOY... kind of like the form of the current generation Kindle 6'', that would be it.

How do you like Plasma 5?
 The best KDE Desktop ever.
 Definitely a nice improvement.
Not decided yet. Haven't tried it yet.
I do not like some of the changes.
KDE is taking the wrong way.
I am still sticking with KDE 3.5.
I have no opinion, but wanted to vote anyway.
