Ubuntu 12.04 Precise Pangolin released! Ubuntu 12.10 gets a name!

Published Apr 26 2012 via RSS

It's been a big month for Ubuntu as is always the case this month of any year. Precise Pangolin has been rolled out on to online shelves and made available for download.

Ubuntu-12-04-LTS-Will-Have-a-Unity-Short

More commonly referred to as Ubuntu 12.04, this is the 3rd release of Ubuntu featuring its very own shell, Unity. Unity has gone a long way from being the slow and buggy product that people universally thought was a mistake by the Canonical team. If you are among those who still believe Ubuntu failed its users by adopting Unity as the desktop shell instead of Gnome's very own shell, then have a look at the new release before getting the critical groove on.

Days after the release of Ubuntu 12.04, Mark Shuttle worth has also released the name of the October release, Ubuntu 12.10 Quantal Quetzal. No kidding. That's the name of the next release. Give Google a try if u want to know more about what a Quantal is and what a Quetzal is. In addition to the name release, Mark also has also gone on to state that improving the look and feel of the next release is a priority.

That's what I assume to be a Quetzal

While the term 'look and feel' may have Kubuntu users squirming in their seats (following decision by Canonical to drop sponsorship for Kubuntu..... only to be later picked up by another company) Mark has gone onto state that fonts and icons will be a big focus in Ubuntu's next release

So lets see if Ubuntu can give the big players a run for their money in the releases coming out this year.

Do you like or dislike Ubuntu Unity?
 Yes, unity is alien technology!
It is less confusing than Gnome 3 default, shell.
Granny thinks it is much more usable than Gnome 2
Canonical is embarrasing itself with this split project
Gnome 3 default shell is much better
I dislike Unity, Gnome 3 default shell is alien technology!
None of the above, I like the 2Gb for free and Apple alike behavior. Will post a comment instead
